Newcastle United have now been told that they must consider selling one of their star players to fund a complete overhaul of the squad.
Newcastle’s owners are desperate to invest some of their incredible wealth into the club but they are prevented by doing so because of the Premier League’s very strict FFP rules.
A new report from inews suggests that the Magpies will have to consider selling someone like Bruno Guimaraes who would bring in a hefty fee that they could then reinvest back into the squad.
Bruno would be a huge loss to Newcastle
It doesn’t need to be said but Bruno is absolutely crucial to the way that Newcastle play under Eddie Howe and the club will struggle to find another player like him.
His best qualities are being so press resistant, consistently finding space in tight spaces and keeping the ball under pressure, something that few midfielders offer in the world let alone the league.
Although it is very frustrating, fans understand that the club will need to offload players at some point as the deadwood in the team aren’t going to bring in hefty fees that will allow them to spend.
But Bruno has become something of a cult hero in the North east since joining two years ago and it’s difficult to see someone leave not only when they’re a brilliant player but when there is a strong connection between him and the supporters.

Newcastle are very close to their FFP limit
The report also claims that the club believe they have basically hit the limit when it comes to what they can spend on transfers having invested around £300m since the takeover was completed.
This means that they are looking very closely at what commercial deals they can agree on to add some extra funds to the budget, but even that won’t be enough.
In the end, it’s going to come down to a heart-breaking departure, whether that’s Bruno or another sellable asset like Alexander Isak or Sven Botman will be down to who is willing to pay what for either of them.
