‘Excellent’ player is now expecting to be sold after Newcastle bid for him

Talk of Newcastle United signing Tino Livramento from Southampton has gone quiet, and it is unclear whether that is a good thing or a bad thing.

The Magpies made a £23million bid for the young defender, but it was not enough for the Saints to accept. That led to a stalemate between the two clubs, with Newcastle threatening to walk away from the deal if no progress was made.

It would be a shame if the Livramento deal did collapse, as the club were once confident about signing the 20-year-old, who is apparently keen to move to St James’ Park.

That is despite interest from Chelsea, who have been linked with re-signing the ‘excellent‘ right-back who they sold in the summer of 2021.

Two years on and Livramento is preparing for a season in the Championship with Southampton, but he does not expect to stay there.

Tino Livramento expects to leave Southampton

According to the Daily Mail’s weekly newsletter Transfer Confidential, Livramento expects to leave Southampton this summer.

They state that he has offers from Newcastle and Chelsea, and his preference is to go where he will play the most.

And the answer has to be Newcastle. Of course, he would be backup to Kieran Trippier, but he turns 33 later this year and will not be able to play every game. Howe will need to rotate his side, meaning there would be plenty of opportunities for Livramento to impress.

In contrast, a move back to Chelsea would see him competing with Reece James and Malo Gusto, who cost a lot of money in January.

First-team football is more likely to come his way if he moves to Tyneside – especially in the long-run. In the coming years, he could be Trippier’s replacement when it is sadly time for the England international and Newcastle United to part ways.

However, that will not happen if the Magpies cannot agree a fee with Southampton. Livramento expects to go and wants to sign for Newcastle, so hopefully an agreement can be reached.
