Newcastle United have identified Yoane Wissa in their search for a striker this summer, but have had both their approaches turned down by Brentford.
With less than a week left in the transfer window, it feels as though there is a sense of desperation creeping in on Tyneside.
Alexander Isak is still AWOL as he looks to pursue his move away from Newcastle United this summer. Liverpool are seriously interested in Isak, but are yet to make a second approach after their £110m bid was rejected in August.
To make matters worse, Anthony Gordon was sent off in Newcastle’s loss to Liverpool on Monday night, so William Osula is the only senior striker who is available and willing to play for Eddie Howe.
Newcastle want to sign Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, with the 28-year-old very keen on the move. However, Brentford have rejected both of Newcastle’s offers for Wissa, and have slapped a £60m price tag on him.
With Newcastle hoping they can sign a striker, a Sky Sports journalist has provided a positive new update.
- Who is Yoane Wissa? Newcastle United’s £55m Alexander Isak replacement

Needles beginning to move for Yoane Wissa to join Newcastle United
Keith Andrews says he expects Wissa to stay at Brentford, but that has not stopped the Bees from looking for his replacement.
After growing frustrated with his club, Wissa deleted all mention of Brentford on his social media, a clear sign he wants the move.
Now, Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has posted about a deal which could see Wissa allowed to leave Brentford.
On X, he said: “Brentford working on potential Yoane Wissa replacement. A few dominoes at play. Wolves’ forward Fabio Silva is close to joining Borussia Dortmund.
“Brentford are interested in Dortmund‘s Maximilian Beier. Wissa is hoping that will unlock a move to Newcastle United.”
Newcastle United have to act fast if they want to sign Yoane Wissa
It is worth pointing out that Wolves are about to sell one of their strikers, which could have an impact on Newcastle’s hope of buying Jorgen Strand Larsen. Geordie Boot Boys understand Wolves want £70m for Strand Larsen, which may be too much for the Magpies this summer.
While Wissa is desperate to join Newcastle, Brentford are clearly far from keen on letting the forward, who scored 19 Premier League goals last season, leave when the likes of Bryan Mbeumo have also left.
Brentford have become a tough team to crack in negotiations this summer, with their asking price constantly rising and bids being rejected like there is no tomorrow.
Newcastle have already had two bids rejected by Brentford, but they will be hoping it is third time lucky if they make another approach.
While the striker search is ongoing, it is important to remind fans that Wissa would be a replacement for Callum Wilson, rather than Isak, who is doing all he can to get that move to Liverpool.
