Newcastle United recently had a bid of £50million rejected for Wolves’ striker Jorgen Strand Larsen amidst their search for a striker.

While William Osula got himself on the scoresheet for the Magpies against Liverpool, it was evident that another forward needs to be signed before the transfer window closes next week.

Anthony Gordon was sent off during Newcastle United’s defeat to Liverpool, meaning he will miss the next three Premier League games. The 24-year-old had been filling in for Alexander Isak, who is still insistent on getting a move away from the Magpies this summer.

With Newcastle unlikely to sign Yoane Wissa, Eddie Howe’s recruitment team are going all-in on Wolves star Jorgen Strand Larsen. It was revealed on Monday that Newcastle’s opening bid of £50m for Strand Larsen was rejected by Wolves, but there is hope a deal can still be done.

With Newcastle desperate for a new striker, Geordie Boot Boys understand there is a high fee the Magpies must pay to get their man.

Newcastle United must pay a club-record fee to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen

Following Newcastle’s rejected bid for Strand Larsen, transfer expert Graeme Bailey has told Geordie Boot Boys the price the Magpies must pay to sign the Norwegian international.

Bailey states that Newcastle may be forced to fork out as much as £70m for Strand Larsen, making him the most expensive player in the club’s history.

“Newcastle have done a lot of work on Larsen, they really like him and it is expected they return with another offer,” he said.

“I am told that Wolves are looking for close to £70million to consider letting him go, but it remains to be seen if Newcastle would go that high.

“Newcastle are still very much trying for two strikers, but things are not going smoothly on that front.”

Despite the price tag, it is believed that Newcastle are set to make a second approach for Strand Larsen.

Howe’s recruitment team have already bought in over £100m worth of talent to Newcastle this summer, but if Wolves stand firm, they may need to nearly double their total spending.

Recent reports suggest that Wolves are trying to give Strand Larsen a new contract, despite the player just signing for the Premier League side. Perhaps it is a sign that they know Strand Larsen is tempted by Newcastle’s offer and may push to go before deadline day.

Vitor Perieira said that Wolves cannot afford to sell Strand Larsen to Newcastle, with the belief that there is not enough time to sign a Premier League-ready striker to replace him.

With just six days left in the transfer window, it is clear that Newcastle are starting to get desperate. They do not want to spend over the odds for a player who will not deliver their worth, and they are also keen to avoid signing a player who does not fit the long-term vision of the club.

What fans are sure to have noticed about Howe is that he tends to return to targets who they held talks with years ago before finally signing them.

It was the same case with Malick Thiaw, who joined this summer for around £40m. Perhaps in 12 months, Strand Larsen will cost much less, and another striker should be brought in for now.
