The January transfer window is just around the corner for Newcastle United.
Quite how busy it may be, however, remains to be seen.
Indeed, there is thought to be at least an outside chance Newcastle do not sign anyone next month – such are the limitations on the PSR front.
Still, player sales could help the club raise funds for further investment, so perhaps there is a possibility signings will arrive.
Newcastle, of course, went big on their pursuit of a new central defender in the summer of 2024 and saw a number of bids rejected by Crystal Palace for England international Marc Guehi.
While the club will reportedly shift focus towards buying a new right winger, it doesn’t mean strengthening at the back is no longer on the agenda.

Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov, hailed as a “monster” by teammate Brice Samba, has been linked with a move to the club and a fresh update has now emerged.
Abdukodir Khusanov is opening to joining Newcastle United in 2025
According to iNews, Newcastle are interested in accelerating a move to sign the Uzbekistan international.
Tottenham are also said to be interested in the £20million-rated centre-back but the report adds that Khusanov is keen on the move to St James’ Park.
Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig and Manchester City are all said to have held an interest at one point, too.
Newcastle might have to move on from Marc Guehi saga
The interest in Khusanov makes sense. Not only is the Lens star potentially cheaper, he’s also only 20 – four years Guehi’s junior.
Guehi himself, meanwhile, may actually end up going elsewhere too.
Approaching the end of his contract with Palace, Liverpool are said to be keen on the former Chelsea youngster and the player is open to joining them.
It seems Newcastle might need to look elsewhere…
