Dean Huijsen could actually stop his Bournemouth teammate from joining Newcastle United

Newcastle United’s pursuit of Dean Huijsen is not straightforward.

As the Magpies make plans for the summer transfer window, Dean Huijsen is on Newcastle’s radar.

The 19-year-old defender appears destined to leave Bournemouth, with various clubs queueing up to activate his £50million release clause.

Newcastle know they face competition for Huijsen, while they also know that qualifying for the Champions League will be vital towards tempting the teenager to Tyneside.

While Huijsen’s preference is to play in Spain, it is currently unclear where he will end up.

Newcastle United could miss out on two Bournemouth defenders

With the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Chelsea all looking at Huijsen, there is a chance that Newcastle United could be fighting a losing battle.

And losing that battle could result in the Magpies missing out on another centre-back target.

That is according to the Telegraph, who state that Bournemouth are unlikely to sanction exits for both Dean Huijsen and his defensive partner Illia Zabarnyi.

Bournemouth do not want to lose both of their starting centre-backs this summer, which might mean Newcastle need to cross two targets off their list. Newcastle want Zabarnyi too, with Eddie Howe desperately in need of a centre-back.

Two other centre-backs who Newcastle United could sign

If Huijsen does not join Newcastle then could mean that Zabarnyi does not join Newcastle either.

Fortunately, the Magpies do have other centre-backs on their radar.

Jarell Quansah is a Newcastle target, after Eddie Howe’s side showed an interest in him last summer.

He is back on Newcastle’s radar, but Liverpool intend to keep Quansah.

Elsewhere, Marc Guehi is set to be available. He will be entering the final 12 months of his Crystal Palace contract, with the Eagles poised to cash in rather than lose him for nothing in 2026.

That could present Newcastle with an opportunity, having tried desperately hard to sign Guehi in the summer of 2024.
