Time is running out for Newcastle this summer. There are now only a few days remaining to land players who significantly improve Eddie Howe’s first-team.
While the club have signed players this summer, only Lloyd Kelly looks ready to make any meaningful impact in the starting lineup.
Indeed, the club’s owners are reportedly frustrated about some of the restrictions financial rules are having on their spending power.
It has not been the overhaul that had been predicted, something that felt important given just how much the Newcastle squad looked stretched last season.
Still, there is time for the club to do business. Marc Guehi remains a target and there is said to be a confidence a deal can be done with Crystal Palace.

Speaking after Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth, Hope revealed that Newcastle would not be signing players for the sake of it. If they cannot land their primary targets, don’t expect any deals, was pretty much the message.
He did, however, reveal that he did expect Guehi to sign for Newcastle.
“My information is that if Newcastle cannot get the players they want, they will not throw money at players,” he said in a video posted on YouTube.
“Marc Guehi, the pursuit of him remains, I still do expect a deal to happen.”

The price point involved in potentially signing Guehi has already been debated by pundits such as Jamie Carragher.
While few would doubt Guehi’s quality, arriving at a club who attract as many headlines as Newcastle for such huge money would put pressure on any player.
The fact the saga has been so drawn out too places even more pressure on Guehi’s shoulders too, should he join the club.
Guehi will have to prove he was worth the time and money invested in signing him. That will not be easy to do.
