Club agree personal terms for 18-year-old striker who Newcastle want to sign this summer

Newcastle United have now been dealt yet another transfer blow as one of their summer targets and in-form striker has agreed personal terms with a new club.

Newcastle have been tracking Nurnberg striker Can Uzun for a couple of months now as he continues to attract a lot of interest with his impressive form in the German second division.

However, it now looks like they could be missing out on the talented youngster as journalist Florian Plettenberg is reporting that he has agreed personal terms with Eintracht Frankfurt.

All is not lost for Newcastle in chase for striker

This is not the news Newcastle will have wanted to hear ahead of the summer window where they are actively looking to sign a new striker to potentially replace Callum Wilson.

But hope is not all lost as Frankfurt are yet to agree on a fee with Nurnberg for Uzun despite having agreed personal terms with the teenager who is eager to join the Bundesliga side.

This happens a lot in football nowadays as clubs want to know if the player has significant interest in joining them before they begin negotiations on the transfer fee.

With Newcastle’s financial muscle, or at least perceived financial muscle, they should be able to afford a deal for the striker who has netted 13 times this season, it’s just about whether or not he also wants the move.

Newcastle need more strength in depth in attack

While Newcastle aren’t exactly finding it hard to score goals at the minute having netted 17 times in their last six games in the Premier League and FA Cup, Eddie Howe will still be worried about who he has available up top.

Wilson looks like he could be on his way out as previously mentioned and Alexander Isak is another who has struggled with injuries since joining from Real Sociedad in 2022.

Anthony Gordon has been putting in a big shift this season but both Harvey Barnes and Jacob Murphy have just returned from long-term injuries and won’t want to be putting too much pressure on themselves at the minute.

Uzun can play both as a striker and in a more deeper role in midfield and would add great versatility to this Newcastle team should they choose to make an offer for him.

As it stands, the Turkish international is destined to leave Nurnberg in the summer and he is sure to have a long list of clubs waiting to snap him up.
