In the summer of 2022, Newcastle United desperately needed to sign a striker.
They eventually got one, bringing in Alexander Isak for a club record fee. It has proved to be an inspired decision, with Isak emerging as a superstar in black and white.
Newcastle struck gold when they splashed out on the super Swede, but his arrival came after the Magpies missed out on two major targets.
The first was Hugo Ekitike, who had looked destined to sign for Eddie Howe’s side. The deal appeared to be on, only for it to collapse when it got to agreeing personal terms.
Then Newcastle turned to the ‘clinical‘ Armando Broja, who was available on loan from Chelsea.
He was heavily linked with a move to Tyneside, and looked like the ideal candidate to support Callum Wilson in attack as Newcastle prepared for their first full season with Eddie Howe in charge.
It was even claimed that Broja was interested in signing for Newcastle, only for the Blues to decide that they wanted to keep him. He remained at Stamford Bridge and played fairly regularly – until his season was ended by an ACL injury.
The 22-year-old is back fit now and playing for Chelsea, but potentially not for much longer.

How much Chelsea believe Armando Broja is now worth
That is because the Telegraph have reported that Chelsea are willing to sell Broja for £50million.
The report states that the Blues will listen to offers for the forward this month, with multiple Premier League clubs keen. However, Newcastle are not mentioned as a possible suitor.
That is an astronomical price, and one that Chelsea have landed on because of how much Manchester United paid for Rasmus Hojlund. Apparently because they overspent on him, someone else should overspend on Broja…
When Newcastle were chasing Broja in 2022, it was claimed that Chelsea wanted £30million. Even that was massive at the time. Since then, Broja has scored three goals in all competitions, yet his value has suddenly increased by £20million.
While teams outside the big six struggle with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, the elite try and flog off their unwanted ‘stars’ for mega money to balance the books.
Broja may well be a talented player, but not someone who is worth £50million.
