Newcastle United tried to address their striker situation in June.
As they hurtled towards the PSR deadline on June 30th, it was decided that Newcastle United would cash in on Yankuba Minteh following his successful loan spell at Feyenoord.
That almost resulted in him joining Everton, with the Toffees eyeing a deal for the exciting winger. Minteh even wanted to join Everton, while there was speculation that Dominic Calvert-Lewin could move the other way.
Heading into the latter stages of June, Newcastle were confident about signing Calvert-Lewin. He would have become Alexander Isak’s understudy, opening the door for Callum Wilson to leave St James’ Park.
However, the move suddenly collapsed. Newcastle pulled out of a £40million deal for Calvert-Lewin, while Minteh’s transfer to Goodison Park was also off.
He has since moved to Brighton, and Jamie Carragher has suggested that Newcastle could regret selling Minteh.
Chelsea consider Dominic Calvert-Lewin deal
As for Calvert-Lewin, he has started the new Premier League season in the Everton starting XI. He has started both games for Sean Dyche’s side, with Everton currently bottom of the Premier League after a 3-0 loss to Brighton and a 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

However, there is still a chance he could leave Everton this summer, despite his move to Newcastle falling through two months ago.
According to the Sun, Chelsea are considering a move to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton as an alternative to Victor Osimhen.
They report that Osimhen’s wage demands are putting a transfer in doubt, with the Napoli striker wanting to receive £500,000-a-week.
That has resulted in the Blues lining up cheaper alternatives, one of which is Calvert-Lewin.
Newcastle will be happy with their striker business
Going from Osimhen to Calvert-Lewin would be quite a leap for Chelsea, who appear to show no sign of ending their latest recruitment drive.
As for Newcastle, they will be happy with the striker business they have done, despite missing out on a deal to sign Calvert-Lewin.
Instead of bringing in an established name and possibly moving Wilson on, Newcastle opted to target a younger forward with potential.
Will Osula has arrived from Sheffield United, with the 21-year-old providing cover for both Isak and Wilson. Newcastle believe the Osula deal is a good one, with the forward boasting a lot of potential to grow and develop.
Eddie Howe will make Osula better, while Newcastle have been able to retain a top finisher in Wilson. The Magpies’ striker options look very healthy – in fact, they are better than they would have been had Calvert-Lewin joined the club.
Instead of signing him, Newcastle have looked to the future with Osula. He is a project player, and Newcastle could repeat the Osula trick as they target Santiago Hezze.
