It is looking all but certain that Yankuba Minteh is going to leave Newcastle United this week, as the likes of Everton and Lyon eye the talented teenager.

The Magpies are under pressure to sell someone due to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, with the next accounting deadline of June 30th looming large.

The likes of Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron have been linked with leaving, but getting them off the books before June 30th was never going to be easy. That is why Yankuba Minteh has emerged as a candidate to depart, with Newcastle United reluctantly accepting that they might need to cash in.

And it looks like that is going to happen in the coming days.

But while a move away has looked likely, his destination has been less clear.

Everton were one of the first clubs to emerge as a contender, while Borussia Dortmund have also been linked.

Then Fabrizio Romano brought news of interest from Ligue 1 side Lyon, with plenty of top sides jostling to sign a young player who Toon fans had hoped would blossom into a star at St James’ Park.

Now he is going to blossom away from Tyneside, with Romano sharing a fresh update on the 19-year-old’s future.

Yankuba Minteh decides who he wants to sign for

Romano has taken to X to share which club Minteh wants to join. He believes that Everton is his preferred destination, with Minteh wanting to play in the Premier League, which has previously been described as his ‘goal‘.

He wrote on X: “Yankuba Minteh, giving priority to Everton as his favourite destination with desire to play in the Premier League. Newcastle, informed of his priority to join Everton. Olympique Lyon are interested as they made contact for Minteh this weekend, as revealed yesterday.”

Newcastle could see close up what they are missing out on

With Minteh eyeing a move to Everton, Newcastle fans may not have to look far to see what they are missing out on.

If he signs for a club like Lyon or Borussia Dortmund, it could be a case of ‘out of sight, out of mind’. But a move to a Premier League rival will mean Newcastle fans can keep a close on Minteh, and see whether or not cashing in was the right decision.

Sadly, it is the right decision from a financial perspective. Newcastle United need to sell, and he is the one asset that is attracting a lot of interest ahead of June 30th.

It will be frustrating to see him leave given his potential, and it will be even more frustrating if he reaches that potential in an Everton shirt.

With Newcastle now aware that Minteh wants to sign for Everton, this could be one of two transfers that the Magpies and the Toffees negotiate. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is being linked with going the other way, with the 27-year-old interested in moving to St James’ Park.
