Newcastle United reportedly remain on the lookout for a new goalkeeper at some point in 2025.
While Eddie Howe currently has a number of options between the posts at Newcastle, none of them look overly convincing for the long-term.
Martin Dubravka may be impressing now but is out of contract in the summer. There have been doubts about Nick Pope’s long-term future at Newcastle, too.
John Ruddy, Mark Gilliespie and Odysseas Vlachodimos have hardly featured under Howe too, perhaps suggesting he doesn’t trust any of them as a No.1.
With that in mind, Newcastle have been strongly linked with Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford. Southampton’s Aaron Ramsdale is another to have been touted as a target for the club.
Still, such is the insatiable nature of the transfer rumour mill, they aren’t the only two to have been linked.
Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher has been linked with Newcastle and a fresh update has emerged.
Caoimhin Kelleher will push to leave Liverpool after links with Newcastle United

According to The Times, the Republic of Ireland international will in fact push to leave the Reds soon.
Liverpool, who already boast one of the best goalkeepers in the world in the form of Alisson Becker, will soon welcome former Newcastle target Giorgi Mamardashvili into their squad next season.
Champions League winner Kelleher was hailed as the “best” No.2 goalkeeper in the world by former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp but will soon see competition for places increase even further.
As a result, it’s believed the 26-year-old will look to leave the Anfield giants.
Newcastle United could beat Chelsea to Caoimhin Kelleher signing
Though a fresh bid from Newcastle for Trafford is expected at some point in 2025, it seems the club have formed something of a contingency plan when it comes to potentially signing a new goalkeeper.
Earlier this month, journalist Ben Jacobs revealed there was indeed some “substance” to the idea of Kelleher potentially joining Newcastle despite interest from Chelsea.
While difficult to imagine Newcastle signing both goalkeepers in 2025, it would appear as if they aren’t putting all their eggs in one basket just yet.
