It will be fascinating to see if Callum Wilson ends up at West Ham following his exit from Newcastle United.

Wilson has been offered to West Ham after he was released by Newcastle United, despite the fact he was in talks with Eddie Howe’s side about extending his stay at the club.

The 33-year-old was in talks over an incentivised deal at St James’ Park but could not come to an agreement.

Now the dust has settled on his departure, attention will turn to his next move. Wilson has been offered to Manchester United, while both Leeds and Burnley have been touted as potential landing spots.

Now, there has been a development. Wilson is in talks with West Ham, a team he has caused a lot of grief over the years.

According to The Sun, the nine-cap England international is in talks over a potential move to the Hammers on a free transfer.

Any deal is thought to centre around an incentivised contract, the kind of agreement Newcastle were looking for.

Wilson’s wages would be tied to the number of appearances he makes for Graham Potter if he did end up joining the club.

What Callum Wilson has said about West Ham fans

Wilson has a fine record against the Irons throughout his career.

Indeed, in 16 games against the east London outfit, Wilson has scored a brilliant 12 goals. Three of those strikes have directly resulted in his team (Bournemouth or Newcastle) winning the game.

The former Newcastle forward is good friends with Hammers forward Michail Antonio, and the two previously held a podcast together talking about life as a footballer.

While Wilson said he enjoys scoring against West Ham, he has also previously hailed their fanbase.

Back in 2022, Wilson told The Footballer’s Football Podcast: “I remember watching Green Street back in the day and from then I just knew it would always be a good atmosphere at Upton Park.

“My first time at Upton Park I was buzzing to be there! The West Ham fans were so passionate in the film – it was a hostile atmosphere as well so I have always looked forward to it.

“With Newcastle, I watched the film Goal! and I only saw positive things. It shows you the Newcastle stadium and I remember thinking what a club to play for!”
