Callum Wilson scored twice for Newcastle United against West Ham United on Wednesday night, and he might have also won himself a place on Strictly Come Dancing.
Newcastle won 5-1 at the London Stadium, with Wilson continuing his sensational scoring record against West Ham.
The 31-year-old scored twice, meaning he now has 12 goals in 13 games when he faces the Hammers. It is a remarkable record, and might have impacted Eddie Howe’s team selection. He recalled Wilson, starting him ahead of the in-form Alexander Isak. That came as a shock, as it sounded like Wilson expected to be on the bench before the game.
It was a decision that paid off almost instantly, with Wilson opening the scoring in the sixth minute. He headed home Allan Saint-Maximin’s wonderful cross, and celebrated in hilarious fashion.
Callum Wilson says Michail Antonio is the reason for his celebration
As soon as his header hit the back of the net, Wilson ran behind the goal to celebrate. And he did so by doing the macarena in front of the West Ham fans.

After the game, Wilson spoke to Sky Sports. He was asked if there was a story behind his celebration.
“There is a story,” he said.
“Obviously Michail Antonio and myself, we do a podcast together. He’s been giving me some stick and saying whoever scores needs to do that celebration, and today it was nice to do it in front of the West Ham fans.”
Wilson has the last laugh over his podcast pal
There is always a bit of banter between Wilson and Antonio on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, and it is the Newcastle number nine who has had the last laugh. At the start of the season, the Hammers forward told Wilson to do the macarena when he scores, and now he has done it at the London Stadium.
Before the sides met at St James’ Park in February, the two agreed that one had to celebrate in front of the other if they scored. Wilson found the net, but did not do the celebration after Antonio did his best to hide next to his manager.
This time Wilson scored again, and danced in front of the angry West Ham supporters. I mean if an away player did that at St James’ Park, you would be fuming wouldn’t you?
But it was hilarious to see from a Newcastle perspective, and it will be interesting to hear Antonio’s response on the next episode of the podcast.
