Newcastle United are anticipating a busy summer transfer window, with multiple positions needing improvement.

The Magpies took a cautious approach to the last three transfer windows, but this summer, sporting director Paul Mitchell is set to be given free rein to work his magic and attract players from all around the world to Tyneside.

Newcastle United want to improve several positions with a return to European football confirmed for next season. Fans will undoubtedly remember the chaos of the injury-stricken 2023/24 campaign, where it was evident the squad was not strong enough to be playing in the Champions League.

Eddie Howe is sure to have learned from his mistakes and will be eager to see more quality brought to Newcastle to aid them in Europe.

Newcastle want to sign a striker this summer to allow Alexander Isak more opportunities to rest where required next season. The Magpies have the likes of Callum Wilson and William Osula at their disposal now, but the former is set to leave at the end of his contract. Howe does not trust Osula yet, but he is seen as more of a project player going forward.

With the Magpies in need of a striker next summer, a new transfer report has linked them to a Bundesliga ace giving Harry Kane a run for his money.

Newcastle United eyeing move for Jonathan Burkardt

The Bundesliga has been known to produce some sensational strikers in the past, with the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland playing there before making big money moves abroad.

Newcastle have not signed many players from the German top flight in recent years, but according to journalist Christian Falk, they will have their eye on Mainz star Jonathan Burkardt.

Falk has claimed that the Magpies are one of several teams interested in Burkardt’s signature this summer after a sensational season, scoring 15 goals. His tally this season has seen him become Mainz’s leading goalscorer in the Bundesliga.

Falk also claims that Mainz has already started preparing for his departure, a good sign that the Magpies can land their man.

Jonathan Burkardt’s stats compared to Alexander Isak

Isak has been Newcastle’s star striker all season, breaking many records. The Swede went on a run of eight consecutive Premier League games with a goal, becoming the first person to do so in the club’s history.

In April, Isak made history for Newcastle by scoring 20 goals in consecutive seasons in the Premier League, something even Alan Shearer could not achieve for the Magpies.

Signing Burkardt would give Newcastle a proven goalscorer in a top league and the opportunity to rotate Isak more often if need be.

Newcastle are aiming for Champions League football, so they need as many bodies in the squad as possible. Early signs suggest Burkardt would be a useful utility player for the Magpies, one who would guarantee goals from the bench.
