Newcastle United have been told Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund will listen to offers for Jamie Gittens this summer.

With the upcoming transfer window billed to be one of the most important in the club’s history, it is no surprise that fans are getting excited to see who sporting director Paul Mitchell can bring to the club.

Newcastle United have £150m to spend on transfers this summer, so they can afford top targets after missing out on players like Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis in the January transfer window.

This summer, Newcastle have been linked with moves for several big names to help their upcoming European campaign. Newcastle want to sign Bryan Mbeumo, who is coming off the back of a sensational season with Brentford, scoring 19 goals and bagging seven assists.

Elsewhere, Newcastle are still interested in Marc Guehi, who stayed at Crystal Palace for the 2024/25 season despite several offers from the Magpies. Guehi may be out of Newcastle’s reach this summer, as he is keen on running down his contract to join one of Real Madrid or Barcelona at the end of next season.

With fans waiting to see who Newcastle signs, Mitchell has been given an update on Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens, who was recently linked with a move to the Magpies.

Newcastle United told that they can sign Jamie Gittens this summer

Borussia Dortmund winger Gittens has enjoyed a positive season in the Bundesliga, scoring eight goals and bagging three assists.

The 20-year-old was part of the Dortmund team that reached the Champions League final last season, replacing Jadon Sancho late on in the game at Wembley.

Newcastle were linked with a move for Gittens in 2023, but he ultimately stayed in Germany. However, it is looking increasingly likely that the winger will leave Dortmund this summer.

Gittens was linked to Newcastle in a recent report from the Daily Mail, and now Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has confirmed their transfer stance regarding Gittens.

Speaking to Sport1, Kehl said: “There’s definitely a market for him. He’s a very exciting player. We’ll be having discussions soon. If offers come in, we’ll have to deal with them.”

Kehl also confirmed that Dortmund are struggling financially at this current time, so player sales are highly likely.

“We want to reduce wages,” Kehl added.

“That said, it’s possible we’ll continue with some of these players. But some may no longer be part of the BVB squad next season.”

Jamie Gittens has experienced Newcastle United before

Gittens is English and spent the beginning of his academy career at Reading and Chelsea before moving to Manchester City and finally Dortmund, where he remains to this day.

If a return to England is on the cards, then Gittens should be able to adapt to life back in his home country with ease.

With Newcastle open to a move this summer, Gittens may already have been swayed after experiencing a St James’ Park crowd. Gittens was part of the Dortmund side that travelled to Tyneside to play the Magpies in the Champions League last season.

The winger did not set foot on the St James’ Park pitch during the game, but surely soaked up all the atmosphere at the ground.

Gittens was also on the bench for the reverse fixture at the Signal Iduna Park, but did not play a single minute.
