Goncalo Ramos is the latest name being linked with a move to Newcastle United as they look to sign a new striker.
Indeed, Newcastle United wanted to sign a new forward even before the ugly Alexander Isak saga unfolded this summer.
Isak wants to leave Newcastle amid interest from Liverpool, while Callum Wilson has already left the club upon the expiration of his contract.
Newcastle want to sign Benjamin Sesko but Manchester United remain in the running for the RB Leipzig forward.
They cannot wait forever for Sesko to make his decision, and Ramos could become a potential alternative.
Newcastle have considered a move for Ramos, who joined Paris Saint-Germain from Benfica in 2023 for a reported £56.6million.
He’s since scored 33 goals in 86 games for the club and was part of the squad who won last season’s Champions League.
Ramos is perhaps most notable for the hat-trick he scored for Portugal during their 6-1 win over Switzerland in the 2022 FIFA World Cup round of 16 stage, having replaced the iconic Cristiano Ronaldo in the starting lineup.
For those unfamiliar with his game, Bernardo Silva has already provided a ringing endorsement.

What Bernardo Silva has said about Newcastle United target Goncalo Ramos
Silva has played alongside the forward for Portugal.
The Manchester City star has previously explained Ramos’s style of play. Silva talked up his ability to finish chances, but also his readiness to work hard for the rest of the team.
“He has got that striker smell to know where the ball is going to land to finish the action, but also he’s a great lad,” he said (via The Standard).
“He’s a worker. A worker in terms of always trying to do what’s best for the team and not what’s best for him.”
Goncalo Ramos compared to Benjamin Sesko
Ramos only made 12 Ligue 1 starts during PSG’s historic campaign.
Still, he did score ten goals while registering three assists, although scoring for PSG at domestic level is entirely different to life in the Premier League.
| 2024/25 statistics | Goncalo Ramos | Benjamin Sesko |
| Games | 22 | 33 |
| Starts | 12 | 30 |
| Minutes played | 1064 | 2399 |
| Goals | 10 | 13 |
| Assists | 3 | 5 |
| Shots/90 | 2.5 | 2.1 |
| Key passes/90 | 0.7 | 0.6 |
On a per-game basis, there’s not a lot to split Ramos and Sesko in some key attacking metrics.
Newcastle have been linked with Ramos for years and are thought to have been interested in him before they eventually moved for Isak.
It will be fascinating to see if their interest in the PSG star develops any further.
