If Newcastle United want to sign Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen, now might be the time.
The Frenchman is a long term target for the Magpies, and was even considered a ‘dream signing‘ for Eddie Howe.
A deal was not possible last summer, but Newcastle have continued to track the 24-year-old speedster. Now it looks like he is going to be on the move.
Valued at £51million, it was recently reported in Germany that Diaby wants to play in England, and it sounds like he has plenty of suitors.
Aston Villa join Newcastle in race to sign Moussa Diaby
According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa have joined the race to sign the France international. They report that Unai Emery’s side have checked out Diaby’s situation, with Newcastle, Arsenal and Manchester United also keen.

Diaby has a lot of suitors in England, and one of them could be in luck.
The Daily Mail add that the winger is ‘expected’ to leave Leverkusen this summer. The fact that the German side appear to be willing to sell represents a change in the last 12 months. In the summer of 2022, they were desperate to keep Diaby at the BayArena, and were able to do just that.
One year later and it looks like Diaby is going to leave, but his destination remains unclear.
Interest from Villa is certainly interesting. Surely if they think they can sign the ‘astonishing‘ attacker then we can too? We can offer him Champions League football, after all.

But it will depend on who is willing to pay what Leverkusen want. It was claimed earlier in the summer that Diaby was out of Newcastle’s price range. That may or may not have changed, although the Magpies’ need for a winger will have lessened if Harvey Barnes signs on the dotted line. He appears to be Newcastle’s top target at the moment, and is keen to join Howe’s side.
That could open the door for Arsenal, Man United and now Aston Villa, who have registered their interest in a top class player who Toon fans would love to see at St James’ Park.
