Aston Villa plotting Jacob Ramsey revenge after talks with £80m Newcastle United target

Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa, but Unai Emery could soon get his revenge after holding talks with one of the Magpies’ targets.

Eddie Howe called for a new midfielder following the sale of Sean Longstaff to Leeds United, followed by another injury problem for Joe Willock, which left him with just four fit midfield options.

Work was done almost immediately, with Jacob Ramsey signing a five-year deal with Newcastle United from Aston Villa. The 24-year-old was likely not at the top of the list of players to sell for Unai Emery, but the deal represents pure profit, which is key for PSR adherence.

Ramsey joins Newcastle having experienced Champions League football with the Villans last season, playing against the likes of Bayern Munich and PSG.

Newcastle want to sign a striker after Ramsey, and have taken a liking to Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson. However, Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has provided an update Newcastle will not want to hear.

Aston Villa hold talks with Newcastle United target Nicolas Jackson

Geordie Boot Boys understood earlier this month that there was a ‘real chance’ of Jackson joining Newcastle this summer following his fallout at Chelsea.

Blues boss Enzo Maresca has confirmed Jackson can leave Chelsea this summer, with Liam Delap and Joao Pedro signed in his place.

Newcastle are not fully convinced about Jackson, but he would make an ideal replacement for Callum Wilson, and would no doubt benefit from working under Howe on Tyneside.

However, according to Plettenberg, Villa have placed Jackson on their shortlist and are ‘monitoring the situation’ regarding the 24-year-old.

There are several clubs interested in his signature, but Villa are there, and talks have already taken place over a move. Reports have stated that Jackson is open to joining Newcastle, but his stance on going to Villa instead is unknown.

Newcastle will have to break their transfer record to sign Jackson, with reports suggesting the Senegal international will cost around £80million.

Newcastle United must act fast in their search for a striker

Saturday’s draw against Villa will be seen as two points dropped by some fans, given the circumstances. Emery’s side were reduced to 10 men following Ezri Konsa’s red card, but Newcastle did not have the firepower to find the back of the net.

Alexander Isak is still unavailable to play for Newcastle, but the chances the likes of Anthony Gordon and Anthony Elanga would have likely been put away by the 25-year-old had he played.

With the Sweden international likely to miss the game against Liverpool, Newcastle have to act quickly as they aim to find a striker before the end of the transfer window. In an ideal world, Newcastle will bring someone in before the Liverpool game, but even now that looks unlikely.

Although he was nowhere near as good as Isak last season, Jackson still has the time and ability to become a top player in the Premier League; he just needs that one move to a better environment, which could make him a top player.

Failing that, Newcastle need to have other targets on their shortlist.
