Anthony Elanga appears to have given his seal of approval to Newcastle United signing Jacob Ramsey.

Ramsey has joined Newcastle United on a “long-term” contract from Aston Villa, following Elanga through the door at St James’ Park among others.

This has been a difficult summer for the club. Newcastle have missed out on multiple transfer targets but now appear to have a much deeper squad than they did last season, the Alexander Isak caveat aside.

Eddie Howe is pleased to have signed Ramsey, who brings depth to the midfield department following the sale of Sean Longstaff.

There are reasons to feel positive about Newcastle’s transfer window again, although the ongoing striker saga is difficult to ignore.

Ramsey’s arrival is a boost and it’s fair to say Elanga was pleased.

Anthony Elanga’s message to Jacob Ramsey

On Sunday night, Ramsey took to social media platform Instagram.

Elanga, who only made his competitive debut for Newcastle on Saturday during their 0-0 draw with Aston Villa, was among the first to respond to his post.

Ramsey captioned a message: “Delighted to be here. Thank you to everyone for the warm welcome so far!! So much to achieve with this amazing club. Let’s go.”

Elanga responded: “Hehehe welcome brotherrrrrr.”

The two join Aaron Ramsdale and Malick Thiaw as Newcastle’s senior signings this summer.

Longstaff’s departure opened up a gap in the Newcastle United squad

Still, it seems those behind the scenes do not necessarily view the former Villa star as an heir for Longstaff.

Indeed, Newcastle think Ramsey will be Joe Willock’s long-term replacement

While Willock has previously been a key player for Newcastle under Howe, he’s struggled for form and fitness in recent seasons.

With Lewis Miley and now Ramsey offering competition to the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and Sandro Tonali in central midfield, Willock faces a big battle for a starting berth once he returns from the injury he sustained in pre-season.
