Mark Clattenburg has exclusively delivered his verdict on Newcastle United’s imminent signing of Jacob Ramsey to Geordie Boot Boys and named who he wants to see arrive at the club next.
You wait all summer for some transfer action and it all happens in a week for Newcastle United, who finally have some light at the end of a long and dark tunnel.
It’s been a draining summer for Eddie Howe, who has seen Newcastle miss out on several of his top targets, while Alexander Isak is refusing to play as he wants a move to Liverpool.
However, with the new Premier League season just around the corner, Newcastle have finally made some progress after their first permanent signing of Anthony Elanga.
AC Milan centre-back Malick Thiaw arrived earlier this week in a £34.3m switch from the San Siro and now Newcastle are closing in on Jacob Ramsey.
The versatile midfielder is on the verge of moving to Newcastle from Aston Villa and could make his debut against his boyhood club if he signs before 12pm on Friday.
Newcastle fan Mark Clattenburg is happy with the signing, Geordie Boot Boys can exclusively reveal, but wants Yoane Wissa through the door next.
- Get to know Jacob Ramsey… Newcastle United’s newest signing as the transfer window finally picks up

Mark Clattenburg is pleased with Jacob Ramsey signing
Speaking exclusively to Geordie Boot Boys, Clattenburg praised the signing of Ramsey but said there was still work to be done and he wants Brentford striker Wissa to be signed.
He said: “The addition of Jacob Ramsey into Newcastle’s squad is a good one and is an exciting talent alongside Elanga, Thiaw and Ramsdale.
“With Wissa being talked about and hopefully to get this business concluded before the window closes, it would have been a great transfer window after a slow start.
“However, all the talk is about Isak and with both parties in disagreement, it’s left a bitter taste with fans.
“If Isak is sold to another club, Newcastle will need a striker of similar attributes and if that can happen, then it could all work out for the Geordies.”
Newcastle appeared to reach a breakthrough with Brentford last week to agree a £35m transfer for Wissa.
However, despite Wissa refusing to play for Brentford, there appears to have been little progress made on the move.
How much Newcastle United will pay for Jacob Ramsey
Ramsey’s signing appears all but done after personal terms have been agreed upon.
The true fee of what Newcastle will pay to Villa has also emerged, with Sky Sports’ Keith Downie explaining that the total package will come to £43m.
£39m of that will be guaranteed, with a further £4m coming in add-ons.
That arrival will take Newcastle’s spending in the summer up to £141.7m after the signings of Thiaw, Elanga and a £4m loan fee for Ramsdale.
That’s a dramatic increase on last year, when Newcastle hardly spent a penny due to PSR restrictions.
