Aston Villa players have heaped praise on midfielder Jacob Ramsey, who has left the Villans to sign a long-term deal with Newcastle United.
Eddie Howe was eager to get new faces in before the end of the transfer window, and he has got exactly that.
Midfielder Jacob Ramsey was confirmed as a Newcastle United player on Sunday evening, having left Aston Villa after graduating through their academy. The deal was completely motivated by PSR, with Villa likely reluctant to sell Ramsey if their finances were more secure.
Ramsey shared his excitement at working under Howe at Newcastle, citing the players who have gone on to make their international debuts being coached by him.
The 24-year-old will be in line to make his Newcastle debut in their first home game of the season against Liverpool, a fixture that holds significant meaning for the fans due to off-the-pitch circumstances.
Anthony Elanga has welcomed Ramsey with open arms, but it is a completely different story for Villa’s players.

Aston Villa players are baffled at the sale of Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle
In his first interview, Ramsey namedropped Anthony Gordon and Lewis Hall, two players who have since earned caps for England after joining Newcastle. It is clear what his aspirations are, and he believes that a move to the North East will get him the international debut he is so desperate for.
It is always a good sign when fans of the selling club are gutted to see a player leave, and even better when the players are also disappointed. That is the case for Villa, with several players coming out and sending Ramsey well-wishes.
On his Instagram story, defender Tyrone Mings said: “Don’t wanna hear any bad words or anything negative on his name. You don’t know the half.”
Elsewhere, Morgan Rogers also said on his Instagram story: “41, gonna miss you partner. The place won’t be the same without you. Love you my brother.”
The move is similar to that of Elliot Anderson’s when he left Newcastle for Nottingham Forest in 2024 due to PSR concerns. Anderson did not want to leave Newcastle, but knew he had to so that his boyhood club avoided a points deduction.

Jamie Reuben sends message to Jacob Ramsey after joining Newcastle United
Newcastle co-owner Jamie Reuben has truly stepped up this summer. After a lacklustre 18 months with no new major signings, work has been done to give Howe the tools he needs to have a successful season.
Although several players have rejected Newcastle this summer, the four players who have come through the door have been quality signings who improve the starting XI one way or another.
Reuben held talks with Elanga to convince him Newcastle was the right move. Elsewhere, it was reported that talks with Reuben gave Newcastle hope they could sign Benjamin Sesko. It is unknown whether Reuben held talks with Ramsey, but the Newcastle chief has taken to X with a message for the Englishman.
The minority stakeholder simply said, “Welcome Jacob”. A short but sweet message from the owner, but one that speaks volumes about his commitment to the club.
