Newcastle United have completed the signing of Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa.

Talk about London buses! You wait all transfer window for some signings and then two come at once.

After confirming the signing of Malick Thiaw from AC Milan late on Tuesday, Newcastle United have now announced the signing of Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa on Sunday, August 17th.

Eddie Howe had been keen to add some fresh legs and creativity to his hard-working midfield, and Ramsey brings those qualities in spades.

The versatile 24-year-old has joined Thiaw, Anthony Elanga and Aaron Ramsdale as senior signings this summer.

Ramsey could even make his Newcastle debut against his old club on Saturday when the Magpies kick off their Premier League campaign against Aston Villa.

Here’s everything you need to know about the signing.

How much have Newcastle United paid for Jacob Ramsey?

Newcastle have signed Ramsey from his boyhood club, Aston Villa, for a total package of £43m.

£39m of that fee is guaranteed, while a further £4m is contingent on performance-related bonuses being met.

Ramsey has been on Newcastle’s radar since January 2024, but the club were not in a position to act upon their interest due to PSR restrictions.

However, PSR has actually done Newcastle a favour this time around, as Villa have their own issues with the rules and have moved to sell homegrown Ramsey, as his sale will go on the books as pure profit.

Jacob Ramsey contract length at Newcastle United

Ramsey has signed a five-year contract with Newcastle, tying him down at St James’ Park until 2030.

That should see the 24-year-old spend the remaining peak years of his career at Newcastle, with Howe working to bring the average age of his squad down this summer.

The manager also wanted to bring in improvements to the midfield after selling Sean Longstaff to Leeds United and losing Joe Willock to injury.

Ramsey is an upgrade on both players and his ability to play as a left forward will also come in handy in a gruelling season on multiple fronts.
