It’s going to be fascinating to see who, if anyone, comes into Newcastle United this month.

While things are going very well on the pitch for Newcastle right now, excitement in January may be limited to purely footballing matters.

Indeed, a rather quiet time of things has been predicted on the transfer front this month – such are the PSR limitations in play.

Still, perhaps player sales could boost funds for Eddie Howe and the rather insatiable nature of the transfer window means the gossip involving Newcastle is unlikely to stop.

The club’s desire to sign a right-winger has been well-documented too.

A move for a player such as Bryan Mbeumo may be difficult to pull off this month due to the finances involved.

Another name has been linked, however.

Borussia Dortmund’s Donyell Malen has been tipped as target and the player has reportedly been offered to them, albeit Aston Villa have also been credited with an interest.

Now, it seems Unai Emery’s side are ready to up their attempts to land the Dutchman.

According to journalist Florian Plettenberg on social media platform X, Villa have increased their offer to Dortmund for the forward.

He suggests their offer now stands at around £20million, although Dortmund are looking for closer to £25million.

How Donyell Malen feels about a move to the Premier League

Malen actually played for Arsenal’s academy as a youngster and has even played against Newcastle too, having starred during Dortmund’s win at St James’ Park in 2023.

Interestingly, the 25-year-old is understood to be excited about the prospect of a move to the Premier League.

It’s said that he’s thrilled at the prospect of an improved salary, should he join the riches of England’s elite division.

Sadly for Newcastle, the finances involved may make a January hijack of Villa’s attempts difficult.
