There continues to be fears that Newcastle United could lose Anthony Gordon to Liverpool this summer.
The 23-year-old was linked with the Reds at the end of June, as Newcastle United scrambled to comply with profit and sustainability rules.
The Magpies’ PSR nightmare resulted in the club becoming desperate, so much so that Newcastle offered Gordon to Liverpool.
In the end, a deal was not completed. Newcastle found another way to raise funds, with Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh leaving the club.
There have since been fears that Gordon’s head has been turned, but there has reportedly been no further contact between Newcastle and Liverpool over the winger. Newcastle are hoping to hand Gordon a new contract following his return to Tyneside.
Liverpool have asked Newcastle United about Bruno Guimaraes
But Gordon is not the only Newcastle United player that Liverpool have had their eye on.
As well as being keen to bring in a new winger, they are also eager to sign a defensive midfielder to play in the number six role.

And Give Me Sport claim that Liverpool have enquired about signing Bruno Guimaraes before the transfer window closes on August 30th.
They add that while the 26-year-old is happy at Newcastle, his representatives have not ruled out ‘late window drama’.
Bruno Guimaraes is committed to Newcastle after being given new role
Claims of Liverpool eyeing Bruno Guimaraes come after the Brazil international was welcomed into Newcastle United’s leadership group.
Bruno was very proud to captain Newcastle in Japan last week, and he is now in the inner circle of leaders at St James’ Park.
“I’m very happy and the gaffer has given me a big responsibility to be in the leadership group,” he told BBC Sport.
“I want to be a leader and help the club in so many ways. I also want to help this guy [Howe] because I am grateful for him. I want to deliver something special for them.”
It is a promotion of sorts for Bruno. He now has even more responsibility, and it is responsibility that he will relish.
It is also a statement of intent from Bruno, showing his commitment to Newcastle United during a summer in which there has been so much speculation over his future.
There has been interest from the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain, while his £100million release clause put Newcastle in a vulnerable position.
But that clause has now expired, while Bruno is not angling for a move away from Tyneside.
Liverpool appear to have a more pressing target
While Liverpool may have shown an interest in Bruno, they appear to be taking their midfield search elsewhere.
Arne Slot’s side are currently trying to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, who was part of Spain’s Euro 2024 winning squad. He appeared in the final, coming on at half time to replace Rodri.
Zubimendi will be much cheaper than Bruno, with the 25-year-old having a £51million release clause in his contract.
If the Reds are able to complete a deal for Zubimendi, there will be no further interest in Bruno from Merseyside.
