The Newcastle United players are back from Germany, but not every member of the squad made the trip to Adidas HQ.
There were some notable absentees, including those who competed at the Copa America and Euro 2024. Bruno Guimaraes was not involved, but Joelinton has already stated that the midfielder should be back in time for the trip to Japan next weekend.
But while big names like Bruno, Anthony Gordon and Kieran Trippier were not present, there were plenty of fringe Newcastle United players and youngsters in attendance. Jamal Lewis got a rare runout, while teens such as Garang Kuol and Treven Sanusi featured.
It has been a great opportunity for them to work with the senior players, while it has also been a shock to see Lewis involved.
After a loan spell with Watford, it was reported that Lewis could be set to train with the Newcastle Under-21s. That has not been the case so far, but it could be a different story for another one of Eddie Howe’s players.
Ryan Fraser back at Newcastle United
While Lewis has been given the chance to work with the first-team despite having no future on Tyneside, Ryan Fraser is not going to be afforded that luxury.

According to the Chronicle, Fraser is back in Newcastle and is set to train with the Magpies’ Under-21s side with his future still up in the air.
He will not get the chance to reunite with the senior side, having fallen out with Eddie Howe last year.
The 30-year-old was on loan at Southampton last season, and played a key role in helping them achieve promotion. He was even described as ‘amazing’ by manager Russell Martin, who wants to sign Fraser permanently.
Loan move is an option for Fraser
For more than a month, Fraser has had a deal agreed to join Southampton. However, he still needs to reach an agreement with Newcastle, as he has one year left to run on his contract.
In short, Newcastle need to pay Fraser off, but that is yet to happen.
The situation needs to be resolved very soon, and the Chronicle suggest that one outcome could see Fraser loaned out again.
That would then bring him to the end of his Newcastle United contract, and he would become a free agent in the summer of 2025.
Whether or not that is a viable alternative remains to be seen, as the Magpies would still be paying the Scotland international. However, it may be better to keep paying him weekly rather than giving him a lump sum to permanently depart now.
It is a slightly messy situation, and one that needs to be resolved. Fraser is never going to play for Newcastle United again, and has made it clear that he wants to sign for Southampton.
The hope was that a deal would have been done by now, but that is not the case. With less than four weeks to go, it remains to be seen which club will be employing Fraser when Newcastle face Southampton on the opening day of the 2024/25 Premier League season.
