Alexander Isak ‘will not be held against his will’ at Newcastle United on one condition

The Alexander Isak impasse continues at Newcastle United and Liverpool are yet to make another move for him.

Indeed, Newcastle rejected an offer from Liverpool for Isak but there is a feeling the Reds will return at some point despite initially suggesting they were prepared to walk away from talks.

Isak wants to leave Newcastle and move to Anfield, though the club have so far given little indication that they are prepared to sell.

Eddie Howe has confirmed he cannot use Isak during the saga, which is a great shame for all involved.

Perhaps letting him leave is the best outcome for all parties. While top brass at St James’ Park clearly won’t want to be bullied into a sale, the Sweden striker is obviously unhappy on Tyneside.

Still, Luke Edwards of The Daily Telegraph has claimed that Newcastle have blocked Isak’s potential move to Liverpool

On Sunday, he followed up on that.

Newcastle United want one more season from Alexander Isak

According to a column from Edwards in The Telegraph, Newcastle simply want one more season out of Isak

It’s said that the club will not hold him against his “will” long term, just that they are solely asking for another year.

They are prepared to offer him a new contract with a release clause in it, which would allow the 25-year-old to have much more control over his future.

If he still wants to leave in 2026, the club will not stand in his way.

How Alexander Isak feels about Newcastle United now

Not only does he want to leave the club, Isak believes his chapter at Newcastle is closed.

Quite how there’s any way back from this remains to be seen.

It’s admirable to imagine PIF putting their foot down and not selling to a Premier League rival with so little time left in the window, but that is a risky approach to take.

The hope will be that, if he does stay, Howe can slowly bring him back into the team once the transfer window is shut. A new contract would then potentially raise morale and allow Isak the choice next summer.

However, that’s a generous reading of the situation. He clearly wants to go and having an unhappy player in the squad is hardly good for the harmony that has taken this Newcastle team so far in recent seasons.
