Newcastle United fans have given their honest verdict on Eddie Howe’s latest comments about Alexander Isak, who has yet to be seen in any pre-season game.

While there has been some success in the transfer market, the story of the summer has undoubtedly been whether Alexander Isak will stay on Tyneside.

The 25-year-old has not appeared in the black and white stripes since Newcastle United’s final game of the 2024/25 season against Everton, where he and his team-mates celebrated on the pitch after securing Champions League football for the second time in three seasons. However, things have turned sour between the Magpies and the Sweden international, with Isak exploring his options away from Newcastle this summer.

Isak has missed all of pre-season, with a thigh problem being the supposed reason why. However, head coach Eddie Howe has confirmed that Isak is fit, but does not feel like the time is right for the striker to come back into the squad.

Newcastle are ‘bruised’ by the Isak saga, and the fans appear to feel the exact same way about the player who could have been likened to legends like Alan Shearer if he kept his head down.

Newcastle United fans lose faith in Alexander Isak after Eddie Howe comments

Isak is coming off the back of two sensational Premier League seasons, scoring over 20 goals in both of them. However, he could soon be scoring goals elsewhere if he gets his transfer wish.

Newcastle are still saying that Isak is not for sale, but they could be forced to let him go if his actions continue for much longer.

With Howe’s true feelings on Isak now public, Newcastle fans appear to be done with Isak and see no way back for him at the club.

“That is damning. Absolutely damning. He’s done at #NUFC – it’s over. And it didn’t have to be like this…” said one Newcastle fan, while another added: “Very disappointed in Isak at this stage.”

This Newcastle fan referred to Isak’s possible new contract, which does not appear to be happening now. “The details of the new contract(s) being offered to Isak will no doubt come out over the coming weeks but it’s fair to say we have tried. It’s clear as day he won’t sign one and wants his move. #nufc need to be careful they focus on his replacement as opposed to keeping him imo.”

“Howe has let everyone know the facts, now really poor from Isak. Who would have thought it from the quiet little Swede.” said this disappointed Newcastle fan.

Another fan added: “If he does go to scousers, I doubt he’ll play against us. Guaranteed getting 2 footed into the gallowgate by big Joe if he does.”

Finally, this Newcastle fan said: “Eddie is disappointed in Alex. You can see that. I think he is sad it’s happened this way. As we all are. There was a way to leave having contributed to a cup win after 70 years and be thought of fondly. This was not the way. Hopefully, signings will happen and the saga will end.”

What Eddie Howe has said about Alexander Isak at Newcastle United

It feels as though Howe is a disappointed parent when talking about Newcastle’s star striker. Many are wondering how the situation between Isak and the Magpies even got so bad. He has continuously shared how happy he is on Tyneside, and went as far as to state his ambitions of more success in the future.

But bridges have sadly been burned between Isak and the fans, and it will take a lot for him to regain their trust. Howe was open and honest in his post-match interview on Friday night, answering every question regarding Isak.

“We would love there to be a way back but, ultimately, that’s going to rest with Alex,” Howe said following Newcastle’s 2-2 draw with Espanyol.

“For us, he’s still very much our player. But the situation is what it is – and I have to focus on the players that are here and fit, and want to play.”

Howe also confirmed that Isak is unlikely to feature in Newcastle’s first game of the Premier League season away at Aston Villa, meaning William Osula will likely lead the line.
