Alexander Isak could yet play for Newcastle United again despite ongoing transfer interest from Liverpool.
The Isak to Liverpool saga has been a mess for Newcastle United. Their star player did not travel to the club’s pre-season tour of Asia due to a “minor thigh injury” but has since been seen training at former club Real Sociedad.
Isak is frustrated at Newcastle and would like to explore his options elsewhere. Liverpool want to sign Isak, although Geordie Boot Boys have been told that an official offer is yet to have emerged.
Interestingly, Newcastle could keep Isak if they cannot sign a replacement. The club are interested in RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko as a potential heir, although GBB sources suggest there’s a feeling the forward will join Manchester United this summer.
That leaves Isak in a difficult position. Unless Liverpool meet Newcastle’s valuation and the Magpies themselves find a replacement, he could end up having to stay.
In fact, the player himself is said to be more than aware of that.

Alexander Isak could still play for Newcastle United in pre-season
According to The Chronicle, there is an expectation from within St James’ Park that the Sweden international will be told to report to training once the pre-season tour of Asia is over.
There’s even a chance he could play against either one of Espanyol or Atletico Madrid in the Sela Cup. The first game comes on Friday August 8, with the Madrid clash kicking off a day later.
Newcastle bosses are said to be angry about the idea of waiting around for Liverpool to bid, despite all the talk about Isak potentially joining them.
The report adds that Isak is fully aware that he will be expected to resume his duties as a Newcastle player.
How Newcastle United feel about Alexander Isak training alone
The fact that Isak is training alone at Real Sociedad’s facilities is hugely frustrating.
The fact he’s not fit enough to head to Asia on a commercially important tour for the club but can travel to Spain for an individual fitness session will only frustrate supporters more.
Still, it seems the idea of Isak using his own coaches comes as little surprise to the club.
According to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie on social media platform X, Newcastle have previously been comfortable with Isak using his own people as long as it is in conjunction with the club.
