Alan Shearer wants to see Newcastle United be busy over the January transfer window.
The disappointment of the summer window left Newcastle fans flat and downcast before the start of the new season.
After missing out on multiple top targets, there is growing pressure for sporting director Paul Mitchell to deliver some exciting transfer business in 2025.
It has been reported that Newcastle will have £70m to spend in January after walking away from a deal for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi over the summer.
However, Newcastle are still not free from the shackles of Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules and must monitor their spending carefully.

Alan Shearer names three positions Newcastle should target
Club legend Alan Shearer has now had his say on where Newcastle should improve and he highlighted three areas in particular.
During a Q&A via The Athletic, Shearer said: “I would definitely be targeting a centre-forward, a right-sided forward and probably a centre-half.”
“I think Newcastle are pretty much covered in most other areas, especially at full-back, so those are the three priority positions. Forwards are more important, I guess (I would say that, obviously!).”
Shearer will be pleased to hear that Newcastle are prioritising a right winger in January with the club seemingly putting their centre-back plans on a shelf until the summer.
Newcastle remain interested in Bryan Mbeumo, but Shearer has named one forward he would love to see arrive on Tyneside this summer.
Newcastle urged to sign £63m Viktor Gyokeres
Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres made headlines this week after netting a Champions League hat-trick in a 4-1 demolition of Manchester City.
Newcastle were linked with Gyokeres ahead of the summer window with Eddie Howe on the lookout for a new striker.
According to The Telegraph, Gyokeres is available for just £63m in the summer as the Swedish striker has a gentleman’s agreement with Sporting.
Shearer admitted he would love for Newcastle to target Gyokeres in January: “There’s Viktor Gyokeres smashing goals in left, right and centre at Sporting Lisbon.
“Manchester United may be getting Ruben Amorim, but he says he won’t be signing players from his former club in January. You have to target the best and he is the best option at the moment. You’d certainly have to enquire.”
It would make the deal even sweeter if Newcastle pushed ahead of former director Dan Ashworth to get a deal over the line for Gyokeres.
He has formed an incredible strike partnership with Alexander Isak with the Sweden squad – bringing that to St James’ Park would be the stuff of dreams.
