A target from Newcastle United’s past is now very much available – and it could be perfect timing for Eddie Howe.
The Magpies are in the market for a striker this summer, and have stepped up their search following Callum Wilson’s latest injury. He is absent with a back problem, and could miss the start of the season.
This injury has further highlighted Newcastle’s need to replace Wilson, but that is easier said than done.
Signing a striker who is just as good as the number nine will be very challenging, while whoever arrives will have to compete with Alexander Isak. That will be extremely difficult, as the ‘world class‘ 24-year-old is on the back of his best campaign ever and already looks sharp in pre-season.
But it is vital that Newcastle United address their striker situation, and an opportunity may suddenly have opened up.
Youssoufa Moukoko to leave Borussia Dortmund
Fabrizio Romono has stated that AC Milan are set to sign Malick Thiaw’s replacement, and now he has provided another update that could interest Toon fans.
That is because he has been told by Youssoufa Moukoko’s agent that the 19-year-old is going to leave Borussia Dortmund.
Moukoko’s agent Patrick Williams has told Romano that there is plenty of interest in his client, as they prepare to sound out possible destinations in England, Spain and France. Williams states that a lack of playing opportunities is the reason why the ‘high potential’ teenager is seeking a move.
“I say BVB is making a mistake in giving Youssoufa away,” he said.
“With so little playing time, everyone will know that Youssoufa’s market value will be low and Dortmund can’t expect much. We wanted it to be different, but that’s the football business.
“Youssoufa is totally clear in his mind, extremely focused and knows what he wants to drive his career forward. Now we are sounding out interest from England, Spain and France.”
Newcastle wanted to sign Moukoko in 2023
That statement should interest Toon officials, as Newcastle United looked at signing Youssoufa Moukoko in 2023.
It was even reported that Newcastle made a verbal offer for Moukoko, at a time when he was on course to become a free agent.
The forward then went on to sign a new contract with Borussia Dortmund, but he is now looking to leave earlier than expected. His current deal expires in 2026, but it would appear that Moukoko is going to have a new employer very soon.
And that could give Newcastle United the opportunity that they have been searching for. Moukoko is the right age, and has the right amount of potential. He could be the answer to Newcastle’s striker conundrum, as his agent prepares to find out which clubs in England are genuinely interested.
It would come as no surprise if Newcastle United’s name is mentioned given their interest in 2023.
He would be a dream signing for Toon fans, who are desperate to see a forward arrive at St James’ Park ahead of the 2024/25 season.
The future of Moukoko is certainly one for Newcastle United supporters to keep an eye on.
