Newcastle transfer news: Toon make verbal offer to sign Youssoufa Moukoko

Newcastle United are reportedly in talks to sign Youssoufa Moukoko, and have made an offer for the 18-year-old forward.

That is according to the Evening Standard, who state that the Magpies have held talks with the Borussia Dortmund teenager about a summer move to St James’ Park.

He is out of contract at the end of the season, and is on course to become the most in-demand young player in all of football.

The Germany international was linked with Newcastle shortly after the World Cup, where he made history and became the youngest ever German to feature in a game at football’s biggest international tournament.

Now the Evening Standard claim that the Magpies have made a move to sign him, and have discussed a £150,000-a-week deal to move to Tyneside. They describe the offer as a ‘substantial verbal approach’.

The report adds that Dortmund want him to sign a new deal, but are struggling to meet his financial demands.

That means Newcastle could be in with a shout of signing the striker, with the Evening Standard believing that Eddie Howe’s side is well-placed to beat Chelsea in the race to secure his signature.

While he is only 18, signing Moukoko would be a huge statement of intent. He is one of the most highly regarded teenagers around right now, and has received high praise from the Premier League’s current top goalscorer.

Erling Haaland played alongside him at Dortmund, and described him as ‘amazing‘. The Norwegian was talking about Moukoko when he was 16, and described him as the biggest talent in the world.

Still only 18, Moukoko has his entire career ahead of him. But he is already hugely impressive, and has 10 goal contributions in 14 Bundesliga games this season.

He would be one for the future and the present for Newcastle. He could help propel the club to the top in the coming years, alongside the likes of Alexander Isak, Sven Botman and Garang Kuol.

Moukoko is wanted by elite clubs from all over Europe, but it appears that Newcastle are trying to muscle their way in by making him an offer. And a big one at that.

£150,000-a-week would make him the best paid player at St James’ Park right now – although that could soon change with Bruno Guimaraes being linked with a new £200,000-a-week deal.

Regardless, paying an 18-year-old that much money is a testament to his ability, and it would be incredible if Dan Ashworth really can bring him to Tyneside on a free transfer.
