Newcastle United can cross another name off of their list of transfer targets as their summer struggles continue.
It has been a tough summer transfer window for the Magpies, with Paul Mitchell yet to bring in anyone who seriously improves the Newcastle United starting XI.
Lloyd Kelly looks promising and will prove to be a smart addition, but he will not be a guaranteed starter. Nor is that the case for Will Osula, who joined the club from Sheffield United for £10million. Newcastle believe Osula will prove to be a good signing, but he is a player with potential who has a lot of growing and developing to do.
The main position that Newcastle need to improve in is right wing, but bringing someone in to play in that position is proving to be very difficult. Michael Olise and Pedro Neto have gone elsewhere, and now another Toon target has ruled out a move to Tyneside.
Jarrod Bowen makes fresh West Ham commitment after Newcastle rumours
Jarrod Bowen has been heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park, but he appears to have ruled out joining Eddie Howe’s side.

That is because the £22million man has just been named as West Ham United’s new captain ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League season. Bowen takes the armband from Kurt Zouma, who looks destined to leave the London Stadium this summer.
Bowen is now West Ham captain, and his comments suggest that Newcastle Untied never had a chance of bringing him up north.
What Jarrod Bowen has said about his West Ham future
Following the announcement, Bowen spoke to West Ham’s official website.
“Since I’ve been here it’s just been an upward trajectory in what we’ve done on the pitch, what I’ve done off the pitch,” he said.
“To get to this moment is another statement of love I have for this club, along with when I signed my new deal last year. I said then that I want to stay here for the rest of my life and I haven’t come off that page.
“If I can go down as a legend here in years to come, that would be great.”
Newcastle were linked with Bowen earlier this summer
It was reported by the Telegraph in May that Bowen was on a very short list of summer transfer targets for Newcastle United.
At the time, Newcastle fans felt that Bowen would be too expensive.
However, it was later reported that Bowen was Newcastle’s top target, and that Toon officials thought that a deal was very much possible.
In contrast, Geordie Boot Boys were told that Bowen to Newcastle was a non-starter, due to West Ham wanting more than £100million. There was also the issue of the 27-year-old not pushing for the move.
It was a move that felt unlikely, and now it is a move that will definitely not happen. If there was even a hint of Bowen leaving West Ham, he would not be given the captaincy.
In truth, it would have been a strange deal for Newcastle. Bowen would have cost far too much money, while he turns 28-years-old later this year. The Magpies are better off signing someone younger, but who that could be remains to be seen.
Noni Madueke continues to be linked with Newcastle, as fans remain hopeful of a new winger arriving before the transfer window closes on August 30th.
