Newcastle United have been linked with signing Khephren Thuram, who is ‘almost certain’ to be on the move this summer.

It is set to be a summer of change for the Thuram brothers. Marcus Thuram is due to become a free agent, while Khephren Thuram appears to be a man in demand heading into the transfer window.

Newcastle have been linked with both players, but face major competition for both. Marcus has a lengthy list of suitors due to his contract status, while Khephren is emerging as a real talent in Ligue 1.

Liverpool are reportedly keen on the Nice midfielder, but he could also be an option for Newcastle. It was recently claimed by the Athletic that the Magpies’ head of recruitment Steve Nickson is a big fan of the 22-year-old.

That could potentially lead to a move for Thuram, who ticks a lot of boxes in Newcastle’s search for a midfielder.

Most importantly, it looks like he could be available.

Khephren Thuram likely to leave Nice

According to Football Transfers, it is ‘almost certain’ that Thuram will leave Nice this summer. They state that he could be available for around £40million.

That would make him affordable for Newcastle, who could reportedly have a transfer budget of up to £150million. And that is before any players are sold.

With two Thurams available this summer, it feels like Khephren would be the better addition. While Marcus can be signed on a free transfer and is versatile, his brother is much more suited to what Howe needs.

He could be perfect for Newcastle

The Toon boss is really keen to sign a midfielder – ideally someone who can play as a six to free up Bruno Guimaraes higher up the pitch. Thuram can do just that. He is a physical presence, as well as being graceful in possession.

Newcastle have recruited well from France since the change of ownership, with Bruno and Sven Botman joining from Ligue 1 clubs.

Thuram is another option heading into the summer transfer window, and it sounds like the player who Nickson loves is going to be on the move. Whether it is to Newcastle remains to be seen, but our chances will be boosted if we qualify for the Champions League.
