20-year-old ‘phenomenon’ Newcastle want to sign has already turned down move to PL rival

Newcastle United are said to be interested in Barcelona forward Ansu Fati but the Spanish star has already turned down a move to the Premier League.

According to a report from SPORT.es Barcelona forward Ansu Fati has rejected a move to Wolverhapton Wanderers. The forward has recently been linked with a move to Newcastle.

Barcelona are keen to sign Ruben Neves from Wolves but given their financial struggles, the only way they could make a deal work would be to send a player in the opposite direction. Ansu Fati was Barca’s choice to be that makeweight player, but the Spanish international forward has no interest in joining Wolves.

In fact, despite all the issues between Fati and Barcelona, the 20-year-old wants to stay with the newly crowned La Liga champions and fight for his place.

Fati’s agent, Jorge Mendez has been offering him to clubs as there’s a rift between club and player. Well, more accurately there’s a rift between the club and the player’s father. Bori Fati is convinced his son should leave Barcelona to find regular first-team football and instead of just saying it to his son, speaks his mind publicly causing all kinds of issues.

One of the clubs Jorge Mendez approached was Newcastle who were told they could sign Fati this summer for £30million.

With Newcastle edging ever closer to Champions League football, he may be more tempted to move to Tyneside than he was to Wolves if we can promise him more game time than he’s likely to get at Barca.

Of course with Barcelona trying to offer him up as a player exchange, Fati’s desire to remain at the Catalan giants may be wavering which could again help sway him towards a move to St James’ Park.

Fati has been described as a ‘phenomenon‘ by Mendes and ESPN called him a ‘generational talent‘ but with Barcelona’s stacked squad it hasn’t been easy for him to make his mark. However he has made 32 La Liga appearances this season playing across the front line.

Only 11 of those appearances were starts and of those he only completed the 90 minutes once. Despite his limited minutes, he has still managed four goals and four assists in La Liga, which is a good return all things considered.

Newcastle should definitely test the waters with this one, it seems his agent is keen to make it happen and it sounds like Barcelona wouldn’t stand in his way. We’ve got nothing to lose. We just need to keep his Dad away from the press.
