Newcastle transfers: Ansu Fati could be statement loan target

With Newcastle United potentially in the Champions League next season, it’s going to be fascinating to see who arrives this summer.

While St James’ Park is already an attractive destination for players, entry into Europe’s elite competition could seriously change the game for Eddie Howe’s side.

If they can offer big wages, huge ambition and Champions League football, there is little reason to imagine leading players being able to snub their overtures.

Whatever happens between now and the end of the season, it promises to be a huge summer.

Unsurprisingly, the links are already starting.

Newcastle working on move for Barcelona forward Ansu Fati

According to GIVEMESPORT, Newcastle will sound out Ansu Fati’s situation at Barcelona.

The Spanish international has fallen down the pecking order after his initial breakthrough, largely due to a number of injuries. Interestingly, the club are thought to have tried to sign him before.

It is claimed Newcastle are eager to explore the idea of a loan move for the 20-year-old.

Barca reportedly need to sell to raise funds and could consider a bid of around £50m even despite Fati’s release clause of £846m.

Still, the Magpies are thought to be ready to move on a loan basis should the terms work out financially and there are said to be whispers a temporary deal could be done.

A loan move makes sense for Fati

Fati is a hugely exciting talent

Upon his initial breakthrough, he was hailed as “a generational talent” by ESPN and cited as a major reason for optimism at Camp Nou. Things, however, have not quite worked out as planned.

While Fati’s record in total stands at a respectable 26 goals in 99 games for Barca, injuries and a raft of new signings have not made things easy for him.

If Newcastle can test the waters in a loan deal to assess whether or not there are any lasting problems after MCL and hamstring injuries ruled him out long-term, it looks a wise way to go.

Clearly talented and able to operate across the frontline, it seems a logical approach.
