Barcelona look set to part ways with Ansu Fati this summer after some ‘explosive’ comments by his father, Bori Fati. Now super-agent Jorge Mendes has been tasked with finding him a new club and has approached Newcastle United.

Talks between Jorge Mendes and Newcastle have said to have taken place to discuss the possibility of the 20-year-old forward joining Newcastle in the summer according to SPORT.es.

The fall-out was caused by Ansu Fati‘s father rather than the player himself after Bori Fati told his son he should leave Barcelona to find regular football. Seemingly not content to leave it there, he then voiced his opinion on Spanish radio station Cope, saying: “At Barca they tell me that they have bet a lot on Ansu, they tell me that clearly,’ Bori Fati said.

Ansu Fati’s father has kicked the hornet’s nest

“When I sat down with Jorge Mendes, the first thing he told me was that Ansu wants to stay and will continue playing for Barcelona.

“But I, as a father, thought otherwise, and Ansu doesn’t agree with that.

“What bothers me is how they are treating Ansu for minutes. One minute, two minutes, three minutes, that’s what bothers me.”

Ansu Fati’s career has been hampered by injury, spending much of last term in the treatment room. He’s managed to stay fit this season, but he has struggled to break into Xavi’s plans at the Nou Camp which is clearly upset his father.

In what seems to be a bid to prepare for the worst, agent Jorge Mendes has started to approach clubs to alert them of Fati’s potential availability and claims that Newcastle have ‘listened carefully’ to his pitch regarding Fati and that they are ‘convinced of the attraction’ of signing the young Spaniard.

Fati would be a fantastic signing for Newcastle

Fati has three goals and three assists in 24 outings for Barcelona in La Liga this term, playing mostly down the left side of the attack, he’s comfortable right across the front three. While his goal contribution tally may seem low it’s worth bearing in mind that his actual time on the pitch over those 24 appearances is just 926 minutes (out of a possible 2160).

I definitely feel Newcastle would be interested in Fati given his young age and ability. He’s also played in the Champions League this season which is the kind of experience we’re desperate to add this summer. Seems like he fits the bill as far as what Dan Ashworth and Eddie Howe are looking for. The fact that none other than Lionel Messi once described Fati as ‘amazing‘ certainly doesn’t dampen the potential excitement around him.

Given the situation with his father and the fact that his agent is actively searching for a new club, he could be available for a knock-down fee, especially with Barcelona’s likely need to offload some players this summer. It’s still not likely to be ‘cheap’ given his stellar reputation.
