18-year-old player looks certain to be sold this year, after Newcastle bid in January

Newcastle United continue to look towards the future, and one of their teenage transfer targets is going to be on the move this summer.

The Magpies were linked with signing 18-year-old Can Uzun from Nurnberg during the January transfer window. It was reported that Toon scouts had been taking a look at the attacker, while there was even a claim in Turkey that Newcastle United had made a bid.

Whether or not that was true remains to be seen, but Uzun ended the January transfer window as a Nurnberg player. He did not leave the Bundesliga 2 club, and is set to stay there for the rest of the season.

However, it looks like things will change when the summer transfer window arrives.

Can Uzun to be sold this summer

According to Bild in Germany, it is almost certain that Uzun will leave Nurnberg during the summer transfer window.

They state that the teenager has suitors in England, with Newcastle and Fulham mentioned as two clubs that are keen. Bild add that Serie A giants Inter Milan are also interested in the young forward.

The destination is unclear, but Bild believe that a move away for Uzun is inevitable. They state that a proper decision regarding his future will be made in March.

Newcastle targeting one for the future

Uzun’s record in the second tier of German football is excellent this season. He has got 10 goals and one assist in the league. On top of that, he has got three goals and two assists in the cup. In total, the Turkey Under-18 international has provided 16 goal contributions so far this season.

Those figures will appeal to Newcastle, who must believe that Uzun is one for the future.

It would be a big ask for him to immediately have an impact in the Premier League, but if Newcastle are targeting him then they must think he has the potential to eventually reach that level.

These kind of targets are very exciting, and they reek of Dan Ashworth. He is always eager to snap up young players on the cheap before they truly burst onto the scene, with the idea being that it will save Newcastle millions of pounds in the transfer window.

We have seen the club invest in Yankuba Minteh, Garang Kuol and Alfie Harrison, and now Can Uzun is on the Magpies’ radar.
