On October 1st 2017, takeover rumours started to swirl as Amanda Staveley watched Newcastle United draw 1-1 with Liverpool.
Just over four years on and she is finally set to partially own the look.
The Staveley takeover saga has been incredible, but it finally looks to be coming to an end.
After a breakthrough on October 6th, the Saudi-backed deal that was agreed in April 2020 is back on.

Newcastle fans are celebrating. They’ve had 14 years of pain under Mike Ashley. That is finally coming to an end, and the club’s future could be brighter than any of us could have dreamed.
Staveley’s PCP Capital Partners will own 10% of the club, and so will the Reuben Brothers. The other 80% will belong to the financial might of the Public Investment Fund.
That was where the problem lied, with the Premier League unwilling to sanction the deal due to the question of separation between the Saudi state and PIF.
But that issue has been overcome, and Newcastle United is finally set to change hands.

How involved will Amanda Staveley be at Newcastle as takeover looms?
According to the Telegraph, Staveley will front the club for the time being.
We don’t know how long that might be, but it feels strange that there is already talk of Staveley not being the main figure at St James’ Park for the long haul.
She has been the focal point of the deal. It was Staveley speaking to the media. It was Staveley contacting MPs when the takeover was in doubt.
This woman has done an incredible job for this football club even before being given the keys.

During the saga, it’s been wonderful hearing her talk about the Magpies. It’s made Toon fans even more desperate for her to be involved.
Now we could be on the brink of hearing her speak for the first time as an owner of Newcastle United.
Whether she’s here for long remains to be seen, but she will receive an incredible reaction the first time she meets fans inside St James’ Park.
