A date appears to be set for the delayed arbitration hearing surrounding the Newcastle United takeover saga.

This was confirmed during the CAT hearing on September 29th, where the Premier League are aiming to have Mike Ashley’s second legal challenge thrown out.

One of their arguments is that it is too similar to the arbitration hearing that is set to take place in early 2022.

And according to Adam Lewis QC, who is representing the Premier League, arbitration is scheduled for January 3rd next year.

This is big news coming from the CAT jurisdiction. It gives fans a clear indication of when things could be resolved.

Arbitration is set to deal with the issue of separation between the state of Saudi Arabia and the Public Investment Fund. That was the problem that stopped the Premier League from making a decision about the takeover.

It was set to take place in the summer, but the hearing was delayed on July 19th due to ‘issues with the disclosure of evidence’. The club confirmed that arbitration would now take place in early 2022.

This was a huge blow for Toon fans, as it meant a resolution to the takeover saga wouldn’t happen until next year.

At least now we have a date for the hearing. But will it bring a happy new year for the Toon Army, Mike Ashley and the consortium?
