Newcastle United are hoping to sign Brentford striker Yoane Wissa this summer, and there are several ideal squad numbers available for him.

After being hit with the news that Alexander Isak wants to leave this summer, the Magpies have stepped up their chase of a new striker.

Newcastle United have identified Benjamin Sesko as their ideal replacement for Isak. Talks are already taking place, but the deal will only be done if the Swede makes a big money move elsewhere.

Sesko was not named in RB Leipzig’s matchday squad for their friendly against Toulouse on Saturday, with the suggestion that he could be leaving the club this summer. Meanwhile, Newcastle are also in talks for Yoane Wissa. The striker left Brentford’s pre-season training camp in Portugal due to the ongoing speculation. There is hope from both sides that a deal can be done with a package of around £35million on the table.

Anthony Elanga took the No.20 after joining Newcastle, but there are many other suitable numbers for Wissa should he sign for the Magpies.

Squad numbers available for Yoane Wissa at Newcastle United

Wissa wants to join Newcastle, a huge boost for Eddie Howe, who has had to endure blow after blow in the summer transfer window.

Signing the 28-year-old would allow Newcastle to focus their priorities elsewhere and continue improving the squad ahead of a busy 2025/26 campaign.

Newcastle will also have many shirt numbers available to him, including the legendary No.9 shirt which has been worn by Newcastle legends like Alan Shearer and, most recently, Callum Wilson.

There are many other numbers available for Wissa at Newcastle, but they are not exactly numbers which are synonymous with a striker. Those numbers are: 12, 15, 16, 24, 25, 26, 27.

Wissa has other, much higher numbers to choose from, but he will surely have his eye on the illustrious No.9.

Brentford chiefs have realised that they are likely to lose Wissa to Newcastle. The DR Congo international has shared his intent to join the Magpies over Tottenham Hotspur or Nottingham Forest, so things are looking up for Howe.

Squad numbers will surely not be a deal breaker, but Wissa will be keen to have one which is memorable or one which will let him make a new shirt, one that simply has to be worn by fans and other players in the future.

Currently, all but one of his former shirt numbers are taken at Newcastle.

At previous clubs, Wissa has worn the numbers 10, 11, 12, 13, 19 and 29. He wears the No.11 at Brentford, which he would likely be happy to take on Tyneside. However, that is currently used by Harvey Barnes at Newcastle.
