Three winners and one clear loser if Newcastle United sell Joelinton for £50m including Ross Wilson

Joelinton’s future at Newcastle United may split opinion among the fanbase.

There is little doubt that Joelinton is one of the symbols of the most successful era in Newcastle United’s modern history.

The way in which the Brazilian went from a misfiring striker into one of the Premier League’s leading midfielders was symbolic of the club’s rapid-fire ascension under Eddie Howe

However, his powers are arguably on the wane.

Prove me wrong: Newcastle United should sell Joelinton in January if they get a big offer 💰

Selling players in January isn't ideal but he has peaked

The 29-year-old has struggled this season and while he is not alone in that, the fact that Joelinton has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia is interesting.

It would arguably make prudent financial sense to sell, particularly as Newcastle value Joelinton at around £50million

Still, such is his legacy at St James’ Park, the idea of selling the player sparks debate.

With that in mind, Geordie Boot Boys looks at the potential winners and losers.

Winners

Lewis Miley

The impressive Lewis Miley looks like the biggest winner, should Joelinton depart.

Miley has been excellent for Newcastle this season and though he’s currently playing at right-back, the teenager’s future surely lies in midfield.

At this stage, Miley looks like Joelinton’s main competition for a starting berth anyway, so watching the Brazilian leave would push him up the pecking order even further.

Jacob Ramsey

Jacob Ramsey hasn’t enjoyed the best of starts to his Newcastle United career but there have been recent signs of improvement.

Those behind the scenes at Newcastle have high hopes for Ramsey, who has started in midfield ahead of Joelinton of late.

Like Miley, his chances of banking regular minutes would be boosted if this deal were to take place.

Ross Wilson

It seems the only way in which Newcastle consider selling Joelinton is if they get around £50million.

For sporting director Ross Wilson, that would surely be difficult to ignore.

Banking that kind of money for a player approaching 30 and struggling to scale previous heights would be an absolute masterstroke.

What is the best Newcastle United goal you’ve ever seen live?

Ryan Taylor vs Everton for me, if anyone remembers that…

No one likes the idea of selling players, but Newcastle simply have to get better at it. Their only significant sales in the PIF era have come against their will.

Cashing in on Joelinton, at that kind of price, would be a great way to start improving on that front.

Loser

Eddie Howe

Howe does not want Newcastle to sell players in January, which is understandable.

The fixture schedule is relentless and there’s no guarantee the club will actually make a signing.

Furthermore, Howe loves working with Joelinton, so it’s difficult to imagine him gladly waving one of his most important players off into the sunset.

Howe stands to be the clearest loser if Joelinton were to depart mid-season.
