The subject of Joelinton’s long-term future at Newcastle United has drawn an interesting response from supporters.
For so long, Joelinton has been one of Newcastle United’s best players and a symbol of the Eddie Howe era.
Indeed, for all of the money Howe and PIF have spent in rejuvenating the squad, the manager’s work with the Brazilian cannot be ignored.
Prove me wrong: Newcastle United should sell Joelinton in January if they get a big offer 💰
Selling players in January isn't ideal but he has peaked
Howe has improved several Newcastle players but Joelinton is the prime example.
The former Hoffenheim star, previously Newcastle’s club record signing, was transformed from a struggling striker into a central midfield powerhouse.
Still, Joelinton has struggled for Newcastle this season and reports from TEAMtalk suggest that the 29-year-old is attracting interest from the Saudi Pro League.
Not too long ago, the idea of the club selling Joelinton would have been hard to fathom.
Things may have changed now, however.
Newcastle United fans open to selling Joelinton amid Saudi Arabia rumours
The news has been met with some support among sections of the fanbase on social media.
Many appear to be of the belief that he should be sold if a major offer is made, to try and extract maximum value.
“With his injury record of late I’d seriously consider it,” said one fan.
Another added: “Done well for the club but time to move on.”

“People won’t want to hear it, but it’s the perfect time to sell,” said one supporter.
Another reaction in favour of it was: “I can see this making sense. Time for [Jacob] Ramsey to help our evolution into a team that has more control of the ball!”
“Been a great servant to the club and revolutionary, but we’ve sadly outgrown him, and in a world of PSR, you have to sell players whilst they’ve still got value,” commented one fan.
“A definite icon but can’t be sentimental. He’s not elite technically and this is the perfect time to sell and upgrade,” said one supporter.
Which player do you regret selling more – Elliot Anderson or Yankuba Minteh?
Thanks, PSR 😡
Joelinton’s decline at Newcastle United explained
It’s not as if Joelinton hasn’t played well at all for Newcastle this season, just that his outstanding performances have been few and far between.
While that is arguably true of almost the whole team in this inconsistent campaign, there’s also the injury factor to consider.
Already this season, he has missed five games through injury. Last season, he was forced to sit out of nine outings.
| Statistic | Joelinton during 2024/25 season | Joelinton during 2025/26 season |
| Tackles/90 | 2 | 1.5 |
| Interceptions/90 | 0.8 | 1 |
| Shots/90 | 1.6 | 0.8 |
| Key passes/90 | 0.8 | 0.5 |
| Dribbles | 0.5 | 0.2 |
On a per game basis, his numbers are down this season compared to last too.
During the 2024/25 campaign, he was much more of an attacking force than he’s been this time around.
Joelinton’s time at Newcastle has been incredible and he will always be a hero at the club for his performance in the Carabao Cup final.
It’s easy to see why some fans would cash in while they still can, however.
