Look away Joelinton as Newcastle United’s real stance on Jacob Ramsey emerges

Newcastle United insiders are desperate to see what the team looks like with a fully fit Jacob Ramsey in the side.

Many of Newcastle United’s hopes for the rest of the campaign have been resting on Yoane Wissa’s return from injury.

While Nick Woltemade continues to score goals, the hope is that Wissa brings a different dimension up front when he finally returns from injury.

Wissa isn’t the only player those behind the scenes can’t wait to see fully up to speed, however.

Indeed, Ramsey is another and that could spell bad news for Joelinton.

Newcastle United insiders reserving judgement until Jacob Ramsey is fully fit

According to The Chronicle, those behind the scenes at the club will wait to fully assess the team this season until Wissa is back and Ramsey is fully fit.

Which position should Newcastle United look to strengthen in January?

Elanga has struggled to justify his price tag so far this season, while Ramsey has only made eight appearances – just two of which have come from the start – due to an ankle injury. Wissa, of course, is yet to play.

Interestingly, Newcastle insiders think Ramsey has the potential to be a regular England player going forward.

Why Jacob Ramsey excitement should worry Joelinton

Where that leaves Joelinton is up for debate. Of Newcastle’s three brilliant central midfielders, he’s the one who seems most at risk.

Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes almost certainly won’t be dropped unless there’s a disaster with their form. However, Joelinton is not playing well for Newcastle this season.

Newcastle United’s top ten biggest signings ever

Nick Woltemade – £69million

Alexander Isak – £63million

Sandro Tonali – £55million

Anthony Elanga – £55million

Yoane Wissa – £55million

Anthony Gordon – £45million

Jacob Ramsey – £43million

Bruno Guimaraes – £41.5million

Joelinton – £40million

Harvey Barnes – £39million

The excitement for Ramsey seems worrying for his Brazilian teammate. If and when he’s fully to speed, people behind the scenes clearly believe the former Aston Villa star can make a big impact.

Given his most obvious place in the team is as the third central midfielder alongside Tonali and Guimaraes, placing so much hope on him would suggest they think very highly of Ramsey indeed.

It’s difficult to see a world in which they both regularly play in the same team. If Ramsey can shine, it could be the end of Joelinton’s regular starting berth.
