Three academy gems who could make Newcastle United debut this season after chaotic transfer window closes

The transfer window has now closed, and Newcastle United will be happy with their business ahead of a very tricky season.

It is done, the transfer window is over, and fans can finally look forward to a season which will hopefully come without as much drama as this summer has brought up.

Newcastle United have made six senior signings and have also improved their youth team. Antonio Cordero signed on a free transfer, while the likes of Isaac Moran and Alfie Hutchison have also joined and will play for the U18s.

While some players have signed, others have gone out on loan. It has been confirmed that Trevan Sanusi has joined FC Lorient on loan for the 2025/26 season, while Travis Hernes will spend the season at FC Groningen.

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle squad is full of quality senior players, but some youngsters are knocking on the door. With Newcastle’s academy now thriving, here are three players who could make their competitive debut for the club this season.

Sean Neave

Having broken into the first team last season, it feels almost inevitable that 18-year-old Sean Neave will make his competitive debut for Newcastle during the 2025/26 season.

Neave enjoyed a lot of time watching Newcastle games from the bench in the latter stages of last season, though he never got a chance on the pitch. He even earned himself a Carabao Cup winners’ medal for sitting on the bench during the game at Wembley.

The young striker was part of Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia, and took part in friendlies at St James’ Park against Espanyol and Atletico Madrid, so he will be more than ready to make that first appearance for the senior team.

Neave has enjoyed a bright start to the season with Newcastle’s U21s, scoring two goals in his first three appearances.

Leo Shahar

After a brilliant 2024/25 campaign in the youth ranks, Leo Shahar could soon be in line to make his professional debut for the Magpies.

The right-back feels like the natural heir to Kieran Trippier’s spot in Newcastle’s first-team squad, and at just 18, Shahar has bags of potential.

Earlier this year, Shahar shared his admiration for Newcastle star Sandro Tonali, and hoped one day he would get to play alongside him for the club. He nearly got the opportunity to do so when he was named on the bench for a game against Brentford at St James’ Park.

Shahar has been a regular in first-team training, so Howe may allow him to impress in the cup competitions or later into the Premier League season.

Seung-soo Park

Last, but certainly not least, is one of Newcastle’s latest young talents to come through the doors at St James’ Park.

Seung-soo Park signed for Newcastle ahead of their pre-season tour of Asia, and even made a couple of cameo appearances during their games in South Korea.

There appears to be a lot of hype around Park, who joined from Suwon Bluewings, as he was named in the starting XI for the Magpies’ game against Espanyol at St James’ Park.

Additionally, the 18-year-old was named on the bench for Newcastle’s Premier League opener against Aston Villa, though he did not make an appearance.

Park has since made three starts for Newcastle’s U21s in the Premier League 2, so, like Shahar and Neave, he could get his opportunity if handed a favourable draw in a cup competition.
