Newcastle United have received encouragement in their bid to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.

The Magpies are intent on signing a right-sided centre-back this summer, having failed to do so during the previous two transfer windows.

Marc Guehi was Newcastle United’s top target in 2024, and he is once again on Eddie Howe’s radar.

Geordie Boot Boys understand that Newcastle want to sign Guehi from Crystal Palace.

It has even been reported that Guehi is Newcastle’s top target, 12 months after the Magpies failed to agree a deal with Palace owner Steve Parish.

Newcastle were priced out of a deal in 2024, but are ready to make a fresh move for the 24-year-old defender.

Crystal Palace owner outlines transfer blueprint

Ahead of the summer transfer window opening on 1st June, Parish has spoken about the way that Crystal Palace operate in the market.

During an appearance on the It’s Called Soccer podcast on the Overlap US YouTube channel, Parish accepted that the Eagles are a ‘trading club’.

“We will be a trading club if we want to survive and thrive in this division,” he said.

“For two reasons. One: Financially you have to, to cover the cost of running the club.

“Secondly, because the kind of players we want to attract – we need to show them a pathway.

“We’re a destination for those great pros who still have a massive competitive instinct and want to do well, give everything. But they realise they’re probably not going to get to the level above us, but want to compete every week.

“Then for players that are on a journey, on their way to the Bayern Munichs and other clubs. We’ve realised over a period of time that we have to be really open to it.

“You have to manage that process as well as you can. Not lose too many.”

Why Crystal Palace may have to sell Newcastle United target Marc Guehi

Parish says Palace are a trading club, and this summer is the time to trade Marc Guehi.

The England international’s Palace contract runs until 2026, and there are currently no suggestions that he will be signing an extension.

Therefore, the Eagles need to cash in this summer. It would be bad business to let him go for free in 12 months.

That opens the door for Newcastle United to strike a deal.

He is a player that Eddie Howe absolutely loves, which is why the club chased him so relentlessly last summer.

Newcastle are ready to try again, but will be wary of interest from elsewhere.

Guehi is also a target for Chelsea, who could be set to miss out on Dean Huijsen. The 20-year-old has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, but a problem has arisen.

Real Madrid are confident about signing Huijsen, having stepped up their interest in the Bournemouth defender.
