For the first time in his Newcastle United career, Jacob Ramsey could be about to start three games in a row.

Jacob Ramsey has had a difficult start at Newcastle United, unable to nail down a place in the starting XI since his £43million arrival from Aston Villa.

That transfer has been questioned, while Eddie Howe has made it clear what Ramsey must do to play for Newcastle regularly.

He has now started two games in a row and done well, with Ramsey particularly impressive against Chelsea on Saturday.

Next up is Manchester United away on Boxing Day, when the 24-year-old will hope to make it a hat-trick of Toon starts.

Joelinton update poses a problem for Jacob Ramsey

Ramsey is predicted to start against Manchester United in midfield alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali.

Injury has allowed a space to open up, with Joelinton not fully fit and Lewis Miley filling in at right-back amid the absences of Tino Livramento, Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth.

Ramsey is seizing his opportunity so far, but the pressure is about to intensify after what Eddie Howe said during his pre-Man United press conference.

Having been an unused substitute during Newcastle’s last three games due to fitness, Howe has confirmed that Joelinton is ‘closer’ to being involved again.

The Newcastle United manager has been protecting Joelinton by keeping him on the bench, even opting not to use him as the Toon midfield began to tire against Chelsea.

But with the Brazilian almost fit enough to feature again, there is pressure on Ramsey to continue playing well and retain his place in the side.

What Jacob Ramsey is yet to do for Newcastle United

If Ramsey is going to become a regular starter for Newcastle United, there is one key area that he needs to improve in.

Since joining the club this summer, he is yet to provide a single goal contribution. Ramsey has not scored or assisted in any of his 14 Newcastle United appearances so far, which is an issue.

As one of the Magpies’ more creative midfielders, Ramsey needs to contribute more in the final third.

It is something he did relatively regularly for Aston Villa, boasting 17 goals and 19 assists in 167 appearances.
