Jacob Ramsey responds to doubters as Newcastle United insiders get vindication

Jacob Ramsey is starting to come good for Newcastle United.

Ramsey, who joined Newcastle United from Aston Villa in August, endured a slow start to his career on Tyneside.

As such, Newcastle’s recruitment policy has been questioned, and those doubts are not likely to go away any time soon.

If you could go back in time and tell Eddie Howe one thing during his half-time team talk, what would it be?!

Still, Ramsey is starting to answer at least a few doubters.

The 24-year-old impressed against Fulham in the Carabao Cup earlier this week and followed that up with another good display against Chelsea.

Indeed, Newcastle insiders have high hopes for Ramsey, and it’s brilliant to see him start to prove them right.

Jacob Ramsey is gaining momentum for Newcastle United

Selected alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali for Newcastle’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea, Ramsey impressed.

While his final ball was sometimes lacking, he brought energy and physicality to Eddie Howe’s side, while also helping them press the life out of the Blues in the first half.

Given Joelinton’s struggles this season and the fact that Lewis Miley has to play at right-back due to an injury crisis, that’s a huge boost for Howe.

Who was Newcastle United’s MOTM against Chelsea?!

Strange to say there are a few choices given the result!

The jury is still out on whether Ramsey will prove to be worth the money but there has at least been a notable improvement.

Against Chelsea, Ramsey had 42 touches and made eight ball recoveries, while winning five of his 12 duels.

Though it wasn’t the most eye-catching of performances, it was a step up on his last outing at home in the Premier League, which came against Burnley.

Eddie Howe’s verdict on Jacob Ramsey is now coming true

Howe has always backed Ramsey even despite a slow start on Tyneside.

Earlier this month, the Newcastle United manager said of the player: “He’s a very, very good footballer and I think we’ll all see that very soon. Very composed, very rarely gives the ball away, but is creative as well.”

Clearly, he still has a lot to prove, but there are now signs that Ramsey can thrive at Newcastle.

It is perhaps a reminder that progress isn’t always linear. Those writing Ramsey off may have spoken too soon.

Anthony Elanga can hopefully take heart from that, too.

Elanga, like Ramsey, has struggled in the opening weeks of his Newcastle career but there is still time to prove himself in black and white.
