Christian Pulisic might soon have a decision to make – should he sign for Newcastle United or Manchester United?

The 23-year-old is one of a number of Chelsea players who the Magpies are interested in, and he is also a target for Erik ten Hag’s side.

Chelsea will reportedly listen to loan offers for the USA international, and the Athletic claim that he is keen on a move to Manchester United. That is his preferred destination.

However, that could be a mistake for Pulisic. He should move to St James’ Park instead.

Signing for Manchester United could be a mistake

Historically, it’s obvious why Pulisic would want to sign for Manchester United. They’re arguably the biggest club in the world. They’ve won 20 league titles, 12 FA Cups, three European Cups. They’re an absolute powerhouse in the sporting world.

However, while that may be their history, their present isn’t quite as rosy. All is not well at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have struggled for multiple years, with fans furious at how the club is being run. There issues don’t appear to be disappearing this season, with Ten Hag’s side losing their opening two games.

It appears to be absolute chaos at Manchester United right now, both on and off the pitch. They’re being linked with big name signings, but there doesn’t appear to be any rhyme or reason to justify their targets.

Pulisic is now one of their transfer targets, but even he wouldn’t move to Man United and be a guaranteed starter. They’ve got Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford who play on the flanks. Are either of them going to be benched?

The American needs to be playing going into the World Cup. He’s an ‘unbelievable‘ player who needs consistent minutes. That’s not guaranteed at Chelsea, and it isn’t necessarily guaranteed at Man United either. But it would be at Newcastle.

Newcastle is who he should sign for

While Man United are in a state of chaos, Tyneside is the complete opposite. Newcastle was once a soap opera, but it looks like everything is going in the right direction now.

The Magpies are a club on the up, and have started their first full season under new ownership brightly. Eddie Howe’s side have got four points on the board, which is four more than what Man United have got.

In terms of long-term potential, Newcastle are going somewhere special. That is the ambition of the owners. In contrast, no one knows what will happen to the Red Devils.

As MLS legend Alexi Lalas said, it would be good for Pulisic to join Newcastle at such an exciting time for the club. He needs to look at the bigger picture, and realise that a move to the North East is better for him than a move to the North West.
