Newcastle United receive PSR boost thanks to staggering transfer blunder

Newcastle United are suddenly in a very healthy position regarding PSR.

While the January transfer window has seen the Newcastle United squad get weaker, it will hopefully become stronger than ever in the summer.

Newcastle have sold Miguel Almiron, while the Magpies will receive another cash boost at the end of the season. Lloyd Kelly has joined Juventus on loan with an obligation to buy, with the Serie A giants set to pay £20million for him in the summer.

The latter deal has come as a major surprise, especially as it makes a real mockery of Juventus’ recent transfer decisions.

Juventus have been desperate to sign a centre-back, and they have done that by bringing in Lloyd Kelly.

But while they celebrate the arrival of Kelly, Bournemouth boast the talented Dean Huijsen. The Cherries bought him from Juventus in the summer for an initial £12.6million, and he has already proven to be an outstanding addition.

Juventus would have been better off keeping Huijsen. Instead, they have signed an older and arguably inferior player for more money.

On top of that, Juventus could have signed Kelly in the summer on a free transfer.

It is a really strange chain of events, and it has culminated in Newcastle United receiving a massive PSR boost.

Newcastle could not afford to reject Lloyd Kelly bid

With Kelly gone, Newcastle’s squad is suddenly much weaker. They have lost cover at centre-back and left-back. When you look at it like that, you can understand why Eddie Howe is not happy about losing Kelly.

From a financial perspective, this was an opportunity that Newcastle United could not pass up. They signed Kelly for nothing, and are now receiving £20million. Given how little he played, it is easy money for the Magpies.

The Kelly sale could allow Newcastle to spend major money on a player in the summer, during what could now prove to be a spectacular transfer window.

It is obvious that the Magpies need reinforcements, and they will address their areas of weakness at the end of the season. That will now be much easier following the sales of Miguel Almiron and Lloyd Kelly.
